I love Frankie Beverly and Maze! I am a diehard and faithful fan, have been for over 40 years. So, I was more than happy to snatch up this CD, especially at $5.00! I probably already have it somewhere but that’s ok; I’ll leave one in the car. I purchased an extra CD to give to one of my sisters who is also a diehard fan of Maze. I gave it to her for her birthday. She was very excited when she saw it! The music quality of the CD is excellent! It makes me feel like I am at a live Frankie Beverly and Maze concert. There’s nothing like playing a Maze CD while doing housework. By the time you look up, the floors, windows, bathrooms, basement, garage, laundry, chimney swept, trees cut down, snow shoveled, car oil changed, furniture reupholstered, everything would have been done, all to the tune of Frankie Beverly and Maze!

As a classic soul fan, Maze is what R&B used to be- a great singer/songwriter (Frankie Beverly) with a real band as an accompaniment, something you rarely see in modern day R&B.

This is a re-release of  Greatest Hits  from yesteryear minus 3 songs. While I'm not going to fuss over the 3 songs omitted, I wish they had the LP versions of some songs like "Happy Feelins", rather the short live version featured here.

That said, this CD has many of Maze's hits from their time at Capitol, as well as 2 songs from their 1st Warner Bros album ("Can't Get Over You" & "Silky Soul". The latter was a tribute to Marvin Gaye, who discovered the group & helped them get a record deal). However, I must point out that these songs are just the tip of the iceberg from Maze. They made great songs like "Look at California" & "You" which rarely, if ever makes it to any GH collections. Also as previously mentioned, save the live tracks, most of the songs here are radio edited- the average length of a maze song is over 6 minutes long.

This is a great introduction to Maze, & you'll want to check out their albums after hearing this collection (at the time of this review, nearly all of Maze's Capitol Records material are available on CD.) It's great to see that Maze still have successful tours here & in Europe despite not releasing new material in nearly 20 years.
