Can Exes Be Good Friends? Geneva Cruz, Paco Arespacochaga Say Yes

Geneva Cruz and ex-husband Paco Arespacochaga met each other again after a long time.

"Saw my first ex/friend and my son's daddy for the first time in years," Geneva said in the video she shared on Instagram on January 12.

The singer-actress said, "Can exes be good friends with one another? The answer is YES."

In the video, Geneva called her ex-husband by his first name Enrico. "Enricooo, what's up?" 

Paco replied, "What's up?"

She also asked him, "Kailan ka aalis?" To which Paco said, "Kakadating ko lang pinapaalis na ako."

Together, Geneva and Paco have a teenage son, Heaven. Geneva also has an 8-year-old daughter with another ex-partner. Paco is now living in the U.S. with his wife Jaja and their kids.

Paco reposted the said video on his Instagram stories, proving that indeed, they are good friends.

Geneva Cruz: 'I don't hug my exes'

In the comment section, their fans can't help to feel that there is still chemistry between the two. 

One of Geneva's friends commented, Enricoooooo!!!!! Hahaha!" and tagged Paco. Geneva responded, "I’ll have dinner with them later. Hehe!"

One user meanwhile pointed out that Paco veered off when Geneva tried to hug him.

The mom of two explained, "Nope. I almost fell after I gave him a high-five. I don't hug my exes out of respect for their partners, though, wala [sa] akin yun. Ingat."

Do you have to be friends with your ex?

In a 2017 study on why people choose to remain friends with their ex-partners, four reasons emerged. These were 1) security, 2) practical, 3) civility, and 4) unresolved romantic desires.

However, these result in different outcomes. Staying friends due to security and practical reasons was found to have resulted in more positive outcomes, while remaining friends due to unresolved feelings resulted in negative ones. 

In an article by Forbes, they listed three things that you can ask yourself before you decide to be friends with your ex-partner.

1. Why do you want to have your ex in your life?

If you find value in the friendship that you have with your ex, then by all means, do it. If you don't, then don't.

2. How long has it been since the separation?

While celebrity couples have proven that becoming friends with your ex is possible, it takes time. If you think you need more time, then take it.

3. What will this friendship mean for your current or future partner?

If you feel like you are comfortable enough to tell your current or future partner about your ex, and the other way around, then it's an indication that you might be ready to be friends again. Nevertheless, don't force it, and don't rush it. Honor your timeline and protect your peace.
