Recap of Last Week’s Hard Knocks Episode
While always a mainstay on the show, given his high-profile presence, HBO has found an excellent way of balancing the Aaron Rodgers spotlight and the rest of the team. Episode 4 of Hard Knocks was a great example. While Rodgers’ Jets debut took center stage across the NFL world, HBO also focused on some of the deeper battles on New York’s roster.
The WR position, in particular, has seen a lot of air time during the Jets’ season of Hard Knocks. Training camp and preseason standout wide receivers Jason Brownlee and Xavier Gipson made the roster after their challenge to each other was shared in Episode 4. HBO announced in the episode that Hard Knocks WR Jerome Kapp was released, and he won’t be signing with the practice squad either.

Another Hard Knocks darling was cut the day Episode 4 aired but will stay with the Gang Green. Veteran defensive tackle Tanzel Smart performed well this preseason, even playing through injuries, but in the end, he couldn’t grab one of the spots on a very crowded Jets roster. Nevertheless, Smart has signed onto the Jets’ practice squad and will be available should New York have a spot open up this season.
