Oakley Capital-backed Thomas’s London Day Schools has acquired Richmond Hill campus in West London from the American Institute for Foreign Study.

The campus extends to more than 100,000 square feet set in five acres. The campus was purpose built as the Wesleyan Theological College Richmond and opened in 1843, becoming a part of the University of London in 1902. It was used for training ministers and missionaries up until 1972. Then in the 1970s ownership transferred to the American Institute for Foreign Study.

The campus is centred on a Grade II listed building and comprises a range of buildings providing student accommodation, a purpose-built library, a principal’s house, a range of classrooms and teaching facilities, lecture theatres, common rooms, a café, a gym, a tennis court, and offices.

Tobyn Thomas, principal of Thomas’s London Day Schools said: “We are delighted to announce the acquisition of the historic Richmond Hill campus in Richmond, to provide outstanding new premises for our co-educational secondary school. The new school, Thomas’s College, will open in September 2025 and will offer a world-class secondary education to students aged 11 to 18.

The sale was facilitated by property advisor Knight Frank.
