WWE Writers Previously Pitched Britney Spears Segment, Details On Scrapped Plans

In 2006, during John Cena‘s third WWE Championship reign and relatively early in his career on WWE’s main roster, a surprising potential storyline emerged involving the pop icon Britney Spears’ then-husband, Kevin Federline.

Bruce Prichard, on his podcast “Something to Wrestle,” revealed an intriguing pitch for Spears to make an appearance and perform at a WWE pay-per-view event during Cena’s feud with Federline.

Prichard highlighted the pitch, citing the perspective of Michael Hayes, who envisioned the possibility of bringing Spears into the fold to enhance the storyline. The proposal involved the notion of Spears attending the event and even singing a song, with the intention of adding significant appeal to the pay-per-view.

You go with the Michael Hayes philosophy of ‘Do you think Britney would come to see Kevin Federline with John Cena? We could get Britney and I can ask her if she can sing a song. That would be good for pay-per-view. He just assumed she would travel with him and we could get Britney to do something.

Although Prichard wasn’t directly involved in the office at the time, he acknowledged the plausibility of such a pitch, considering Spears’ immense popularity during that period. The proposal reflected an attempt to leverage Spears’ star power to create buzz and elevate the appeal of the pay-per-view event.

I wouldn’t be surprised, because I wasn’t in the office, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if that was a pitch as well. ‘We could get Federline and Britney may come and it’s in the door to use Britney.’ Britney was the hottest thing going at the time. Wouldn’t shock me if that was the pitch.

Ultimately, this potential collaboration did not materialise, and Britney Spears never made an appearance or performed at a WWE pay-per-view event during this period.
