Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines is known for its affordable ticket prices, with customers paying additional fees for ancillary services such as luggage. The carrier has a lower weight limit for its checked bags than most competitors but allows specific items to come along for free.

Frontier Airlines' personal item policy

A singular personal item is the only piece of baggage included in every fare. According to Frontier Airlines' baggage policy, the maximum size for a personal item is 8 inches deep, 18 inches wide, and 14 inches high. This includes any handles, wheels, and straps.

Items such as purses, totes, computer bags, briefcases, diaper bags, and kid's backpacks all fall under the "personal item" category.

The airline staff at the boarding gate reserve the right to check the size of any personal items, with the carrier's website confirming items larger than the allowed dimensions are subject to an additional charge.

Frontier Airlines' carry-on policy

Carry-on bags must be purchased for each leg of the journey but are included in select ticket bundles. Large backpacks, wheeled suitcases, and duffle bags must be no greater than 24 inches high, 16 inches wide, and 10 inches deep. Carry-on items also have a weight limit of 35 pounds (15.9 kg), and the measurements are again inclusive of wheels, straps, and handles.

Prices for carry-on bags vary based on when the bag is added to the booking. The cheapest time to add a bag is during the initial booking, with prices increasing again 24 hours before the flight and at check-in; the most expensive price is charged at the gate.

Frontier Airlines' checked bag policy

Frontier Airlines announced in 2022 that it was reducing the weight limit for checked bags from the industry standard of 50 pounds or 40 pounds (18.1 kg). A decrease of 20%. Bags weighing between 41 and 50 pounds will be charged $75 per bag in each direction, while bags between 51 and 100 pounds cost $100 each way. The airline does not accept bags over 100 pounds, except mobility devices and musical instruments.
