About
About - Founded in 1850 as part of the Anglican foundation for Christchurch, Christ’s College is an independent boys’ boarding and day school. Christchurch post-earthquakes is a changed landscape, and heritage buildings such as those seen at College are rare. Here is your opportunity to visit our unique campus with its outstanding collection of heritage buildings, located in the heart of the central city framed by the River Avon, and bordering Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens. Our guides all have a personal link with the school. As either past students, staff or parents, their knowledge of and passion for Christ’s College shows. They would love the opportunity to share this with you. Guided tours of our campus and heritage buildings take place on weekdays at 10am and take approximately 80 minutes. Appreciate the architectural highlights of our campus, such as Big School built in 1863 which is the oldest educational building still in use in New Zealand, the Memorial Dining Hall (1925), the Chapel and more. Don’t leave Christchurch without visiting College.

They do offer guided tours of the grounds and the inside some of the buildings, but after inquiring at reception, I opted to wander around on my own outside. I really loved the architecture of the buildings. This is very walkable from downtown, and the museum, botanical gardens and arts centre are all close by.

Unbelievable beauty abounds on the campus. The quadrangle is exceptional. We loved seeing all the boy's in their uniforms around campus. This is something that you simply should not miss.

We were lucky to visit when it was open and you can freely walk around the quadrangle and see the already restored beautiful buildings of Christchurch and visit the Great Hall with its stunning stain glass window. Well worth a visit.

Christ's College is a must visit for anyone interested in early European Christchurch and its history. The College was one of the first built and is part of the Anglican Church history of the city. It is modelled on colleges at Oxford University in England, which is where the name Christchurch came from. So even the architecture is incredible and worth viewing. The College is in the centre of the city and is accessible especially in the weekend, and is a functioning traditional school, with old style uniforms and traditions. Feel free to walk around and ask questions. Goes well with a visit to the museum adjacent and the lovely Hagley Park. The annual rugby game verses the State school Christchurch Boy's is a worth going to too.

Christ's College, Christchurch is an independent, Anglican, secondary, day and boarding school for boys, located in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. This location, adjacent to the Government Domain (now Hagley Park),

The Christ's College grounds have a collection of nineteenth century, and turn-of-the-century buildings, as well as newly built buildings such as the Old Boys Theater and the Fine Arts Building. The neogothic style is dominant, as was the case for most notable colonial-period buildings in Christchurch, such as the Cathedral, and the original buildings of Canterbury University (formerly Canterbury College), which is now the Christchurch Arts Center. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings of its type in New Zealand.

Photos taken from the campus.

This place allows visitors to enter the square garden inside, but it's enough to feel you are visiting England instead of New Zealand. The beautiful heavy Victorian style along with the green garden let you feel you are in the antique times.

This grand old building is the first in Ch-ch, set up by the founding fathers, - the Anglican church. It represents the Britannic side of NZ & Ch-ch history and is worth a look.

A visit to the college grounds feels like you have been transported to the mother country. Very nice buildings and good to see them repaired after the quake.
