Originally, Mixing Bowl was about holding baking classes such as macarons, tarts, bread, cinnamon buns or puff etc. Mixing Bowl Cafe came to the scene later, situated in the soho area. I heard the Cafe serves great coffee, so DZ and I decided to try.Mixing Bowl Cafe is at Shin Hing Street. When you see the famed Sing Heung Yuen, just keep walking and turn left and climb up the stairs. The Cafe was bigger than I expected. You can find a huge blackboard menu on a side of the wall. Here light brunch options are served and I think most of them are prepared in the little open kitchen right next to the cashier. The food options are quite limited including Muesli Bowl, Porridge, Eggs and Toasts, Pancakes and the popular scones. Cappuccino ($36) - Cappuccino again for me, of course. I really like this set of white cup and saucer, because it looked so simple. The coffee was hot and silky smooth.DZ點的不知道是Ristretto什麼咖啡,哈,抱歉我真的對咖啡沒有太大的研究。。Not sure what DZ had ordered, some Ristretto coffee? I really know nothing about coffee...Pulled Pork Sandwich ($75) - DZ點了一份pulled pork sandwich,等了很久才上桌。 Pulled Pork Sandwich ($75) - DZ ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which took quite a while to arrive at our table. We specifically requested for the bread to be toasted but the female staff forgot and claimed that it was toasted while the bread didn't look toasted at all... Then one of the owners (I suppose) looked at the sandwich and instructed the female staff to get the sandwich well-toasted... I don't mind staff forgetting our request but it's not okay to try to lie and cover up. It's a very simple sandwich, the menu said the pork was slow-cooked with homemade marinade, and the bread was of course from the Cafe itself. I didn't try the pork but did take a bite of the toast, which was good and toasted well. DZ didn't say much about the pulled pork, neither did she praise it. I guess this meant the sandwich was okay. The portion was quite large though. Avocado Toast ($75) - I ordered the Avocado Toast, a classic/typical brunch item. Same as the pulled pork sandwich there was mixed leaf salad next to the toast. On top of the house-made toast sat a thick layer of mashed avocado, few pieces of roasted vine tomatoes and a poached egg. The bread was fresh. Well, every component of the toast was natural and basic, contributing to the simplest taste. The toast was thick but was only slightly warm after toasting. The fresh mashed avocado went well on the toast and the whole thing was definitely enhanced by the runny yolk of the egg. That said, I kind of think that the combination of bread + avocado + egg did become a bit boring as I ate them since the portion was quite large. Probably better to share with your friend. Oh, also, was it really very difficult for them to just give a few more vine tomatoes??餐牌上寫著有2隻蛋的為什麼只給了我一隻??Why I only got one egg when the menu said there should be two?? Nothing too amazing nor too surprising for a simple brunch. Those who strive for a healthy or clean eating would probably like it here (well, although pulled pork cannot be regarded as healthy...). Or, just come here for the coffee. I don't dislike Mixing Bowl Cafe, just that I don't feel the urge to come here again. What's missing?
