Penfield High School has no diversity in staff. There is only a handful of non-white teachers, administrators, and counselors. A School with an increasing number of colored students needs a support system that looks like their own to enable those kids to feel like there are trusted adults who will understand what they go through because they can relate. We need more non-white staff members to enable more significant and rapid change.
The best part of going to school at Penfield High School is the friends I’ve made there. There are lots of great people that I have met and believe will remain lifelong friends. The worst parts are the administration leaving every sixth months, the bathrooms without any paper towels, and the sad workload in preparation for college. I do not feel prepared for college after going to PHS, the longest essay I have ever written was four pages and I have barely had to do any readings.
overall at PHS, I have had some ups and some downs. The best part about Penfield High School is the Faculty and Teachers. In all 4 years of high school, I have only had 2 teachers that I did not find helpful or that I did not find to be as energetic and outgoing as many of the school's staff. Other than those 2, my teachers have been amazing to me. whether it was helping me with overcoming my disability-related challenges, helping me work through social issues within the school, and most importantly, hugely helping me with my academics. The only thing I find negative about PHS is the facilities. thankfully, they are renovating multiple areas of the school after this school year so while I and my class won't be able to enjoy the new and improved PHS, the future classes will enjoy them.
