A state senator is murdered outside his home, and the police arrest a strange man described as having "icy eyes" for the crime. An Italian reporter finds a stripper who claims to have been an eyewitness to the assassination and saw the man with the icy eyes commit it. At his trial she testifies against him, and he's sentenced to death. However, the reporter soon begins to find holes in the stripper's story, and other circumstances arise which makes him believe that the wrong man may have been convicted

1971 Albuquerque set giallo from Alberto De Martino focuses more on the mystery angle than colorful gorefest tropes, utilizing an ok lead in Sabato, strong supporting cast with Bouchet and Victor Bruno, and rando semi supernatural side plot that I liked. The score is serviceable, and the setting is a nice change of pace, but it takes a little long to get to the pretty tense final act.
Honestly I came for Barbara Bouchet, she’s great in this (and in everything else) despite limited screen time.
Serviceable genre entry... it’s fine.

I still had this Alberto de Martino giallo laying around, so I decided to put it on. This is more a (journalist) procedural flick than a straight up black-gloved killer giallo. I liked the Albuquerque setting and Antonio Sàbato does a great job as the main investigative reporter.
I honestly only wanted to check this out for Barbara Bouchet, but sadly she is severely underused here. She gets to show off the girls early on in the movie and gets slapped around by Sàbato later, and that's about it. A shame really.
Decent story + decent execution = decent movie

Antonio Sabato and Victor Buono are two cops…wait…they aren’t cops at all! They are newspaper men! At any rate, they are investigating the murder of a state senator (I should probably mention this giallo is set in Albuquerque) who was shot down at his doorstep. It seems like an open and shut case as police nab a man leaving a scene of the crime. But a suitcase was placed in a car that was speeding away, allegedly being driven by the titular “man with icy eyes”. A witness steps forward, an exotic dancer played by the lovely Barbara Bouchet, but is her testimony trustworthy? …

This was a pretty solid, if not terribly exciting (until the final stretch, anyway) thriller/giallo by Alberto De Martino.
To me, the giallo tag is somewhat loosely applied here. It plays more like a detective story, except here it's a reporter as the main character. He's driven to help save the life of a man set to be executed after being falsely convicted. But the movie's strongest hook is the setup about 20 minutes in where an astrologer predicts top-billed Antonio Sabàto Sr (and two others) will die before midnight. It lends the film a slight supernatural edge, especially as it progresses.
It's actually the first movie I've watched that's been headlined by Sabàto, who exudes a likable screen presence.…

An action thriller like giallo that had more mystery than it did murdering. The dubbing can be very noticeable. Especially if you were use to certain voices like Victor Buono's voice.
This can be quite the slow pace murder mystery that only the interested viewers will possible check out beyond the cover art for the movie. Overall this was an okay watch. Even with icy eyes, I wouldn't gaze upon this giallo again.

The Man with Icy Eyes is a 1971 Italian giallo film directed by Alberto De Martino which follows an Italian reporter who seeks to solve a crime before a false suspect is executed.
Featuring a pretty great ‘ticking clock’ set up, The Man with Icy Eyes is a pretty cool giallo thriller with a compelling plot with themes of racism.
Antonio Sabáto is really solid as our lead, a hard-boiled reporter willing to do anything to solve the case, and he brings a great deal of wit to the role.

Quasi Giallo from Alberto Martino has Italian reporter Antonio Sabato investigating the murder of a state senator in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Plot wise this is very generic tale of wrongful accusation and conspiracy, but the uniqueness of an Italian flick in this setting gives this film it's own
charm. There's next to no violence but Martino does pull out some suspenseful sequences towards the confusing finale.

One of those Italian mysteries that suggest a giallo but play closer to a crime procedural. Some of the race against time plotting is rote, but this keeps busy find some lively stuff so Antonio Sabato journalist on the case remains busy. He gets a good supporting cast (Victor Buono, Barbara Bouchet, Keenan Wynn) and the movie has lots off weird details to keep it more offbeat than it should. I wish Alberto de Martino images weren't so plain as this could use more style, but he makes some fine use of the New Mexico location shooting to add some character to it.

Italian genre specialist Alberto De Martino (The Antichrist [1974], Holocaust 2000) directs this slow mystery/thriller set in New Mexico. Not gory or stylish enough to be a giallo, and lacking enough crime to be a poliziottesco, this little flick doesn't fit comfortably within the tradition of 1970's Italian exploitation. The first 2/3 is essentially a slow mystery story, with the last 1/3 becoming a race against time thriller. It's not without eurotrash charm, but sadly lacks enough punch to make it memorable. Starring Antonio Sabato (Escape from the Bronx, Gang War in Milan) and the ever lovely Barbara Bouchet (Don't Torture a Ducking, Cry of a Prostitute).

Antonio Sabato as a journalist who tries to save an innocent man from getting the death sentence...
A Euro Crime set in the US with a compelling plot which leaves you guessing right til the end and a great supporting cast (Keenan Wynn, Corrado Gaipa, Barbara Bouchet, Victor Buono). There isn't much Euro Crime feeling here though as it plays out like a typical US-detective story. Still worth watching for the mystery and Barbara Bouchet who is even more stunning than usual.
Make or Break Scene: The finale.

Just another giallo set in Albuquerque. Surprisingly un-sucky considering its an Alberto De Martino joint. There are large problems like the last hour of plot time being stretched beyond all credibility as the leads try to track down a suspect. However, Antonio Sabato is handsome and winning as usual, Barbara Bouchet nudes it up and gets slapped as usual and Victor Buono looks stern and rotund as usual. Reminded me a little of Perversion Story, and while not quite as good, is still an enjoyable watch.

I’ve listened to this ultra rare soundtrack for the longest time without ever watching the flick until now. It plays out rather tamely without the blood and guts and it’s set in Albuquerque of all places which gives it a different landscape. Decent, but the best parts are that Peppino de Luca soundtrack and Barbara Bouchet for sure.
