Take Two with Phineas and Ferb is a series of interstitials based on Phineas and Ferb, produced by Hieroglyphic Productions in association with Disney Television Animation. It involves Phineas and Ferb interviewing well-known figures including Taylor Swift, Neil Patrick Harris, Howie Mandel, and Shaun White. Debuting on December 3, 2010 on Disney Channel, the show spurred various international episodes and a unique South Korean version.
Production[]
The concept was first reported on June 21, 2010 by The New York Times in an article about Disney's plans regarding making Phineas and Ferb into a franchise.[1] The idea came to be when Disney asked creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh to come up with a way to mix the cartoon characters with live-action stars.[2] The series was announced to have been picked up on November 4, 2010, with its debut date slated in the following month.[3]
Ten shorts were initially ordered by Disney Channel.[2] The first guests confirmed to appear were Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg, Tony Hawk, and Randy Jackson, all of which mentioned in the green-light announcement.[3] In a press release issued the day after, the rest of the celebrities for the first order were unveiled, with Jack Black as the inaugural guest.[4] Ahead of its premiere, a first look at the series was shown in an article by Variety, and the first three episodes were made available on the Disney YouTube channel.[2][5]
For each episode, guests would film 60 to 90 minutes of footage in a green screen set, sitting besides two cardboard cut-outs of Phineas and Ferb.[5] Being an unscripted show, crew members such as Bobby Gaylor would come up with the characters' lines on the spot.[5] Outside the main duo, Isabella serves as the stage manager and other Danville citizens like Dr. Doofenshmirtz could make appearances as well; all of this was taken into account during production.[4] In post-production, the cast members voiced their lines, the film was edited down, and animated segments directed by Seth Kearsley[6] were incorporated accordingly.
The first ten shorts aired from December 2010 to April 2011. On June 7, 2011, with the reveal of the premiere date for Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, new episodes of Take Two were announced to begin airing in the summer, including guests such as David Beckham and Jason Segel.[7] A month later, on July 11, the remaining guests were unveiled alongside the date for the Beckham short. Among the names listed were Miss Piggy and Ty Pennington.[8] Previews of some of these episodes were released in news sites.[9][10] The rest of the episodes aired from July to November 2011, concluding the series with an episode on Guy Fieri.[11]
Internationally, the program was being broadcast in several regions, with dubbed versions of the U.S. shorts. The first episode with a local guest was produced for Disney Channel India's Christmas 2011 programming, featuring Cyrus Broacha.[12] This led to the creation of multiple exclusive shorts with local celebrities for different countries. Latin America and Brazil were the first to do this, premiering their episodes on Platypus Day 2012.[13] While most regions had been only repurposing the American segments, South Korea produced their own version of the show in 2013, titled Phineas and Ferb's Funny Show, which was ten minutes long and aired from May to July.[14][15] The last shorts made overall were on Latin American soccer stars for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.[16]

Background Information[]
- This series is similar to Space Ghost Coast to Coast, in which an animated talk show host interacts with his live-action guests.
- Unlike the original show, the series is animated with flash.
- In the press release for the premiere date of Across the 2nd Dimension, Selena Gomez was listed among new guests for Take Two with Phineas and Ferb.[7] This suggests that an episode for Gomez was planned at one point, but was scrapped presumably due to production on Wizards of Waverly Place, which starred Gomez, wrapping up around that time.
- Due to the gap between the first ten and the last ten shorts, they are sometimes referred to as two separate seasons.[9]
- On August 12, 2012, during the Platypus Day marathon in Latin America and Brazil, exclusive episodes of Take Two with Phineas and Ferb premiered, guest starring the vocalist Di Ferrero of NX Zero on the Brazilian feed, Mariano Martinez on the South feed, and Oscar "Conejo" Perez on the North feed.[13]
- On April 8, 2013, Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond announced that he would appear in an episode premiering on May 16, 2013.[22]
