And the hits just keep on coming for Valour FC.

8:28 PM

Winnipeg’s pro soccer squad found another way to lose Friday night in Canadian Premier League action in Toronto.

Down 1-0 at halftime, York FC came from behind to claim a 3-1 triumph over Valour, now winless in five matches to begin the 2024 campaign.

Dante Campbell opened the scoring for the visitors, however, York stormed ahead on goals by Noah Abatneh, Brian Wright and Mo Babouli.

Valour still has a pair of road contests (Halifax and Calgary) this month before finally making its home season debut June 2 against Vancouver FC.

Mounties seize thousands of untaxed cigarettes in Selkirk

2:07 PM

A 22-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges after Mounties seized more than 42,000 illegal cigarettes from a store in Selkirk last month.

Selkirk RCMP, who were probing the illegal sale of unregulated cigarettes and cannabis along with provincial tax investigators, executed a warrant at the business on the 400 block of Main Street on April 24. Mounties also found a small amount of illicit cannabis and more than $18,000 in cash.

The man, who was released ahead of a July court appearance, will be charged with the possession of the proceeds of crime, possession for the purpose of selling and unauthorized distribution under the Cannabis Act, and possession of 25 or more units of unmarked tobacco under tax regulations.

He could be fined triple taxes on the cigarettes, more than $40,000, if he’s convicted.
