Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives and thus a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving. Smart India Hackathon 2024 was launched by AICTE and MoE. The first four editions SIH2017, SIH2018, SIH2019, and SIH2020 proved to be extremely successful in promoting innovation and out-of-the-box thinking in young minds especially engineering students from across India. What Is Smart India Hackathon 2024?

The hackathons 2024 edition will have statements linked to a range of themes the themes including- Agriculture, food and rural development, Blockchain and cybersecurity, Clean and Green Technology, Fitness, and Sports, Heritage, Culture, MedTech/ BioTech/HealthTech, Miscellaneous, Renewable/ Sustainable Energy, Robotics and Drones, Smart Automation, Smart Vehicles, Travel and Tourism, Transportation and Logistics, Disaster Management, Smart Education. The process involves the submission of problem statements by central and state ministries, departments, PSUs, industries, and NGOs; the review of submitted problem statements and finalization by concerned committees and the publishing of finalized problem statements.

Objectives of SIH

The main goal of a Smart India Hackathon is to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our day-to-day lives. The first four editions of SIH have proven to be extremely successful in promoting innovative out-of-the-box thinking in young minds especially engineering students from across India. SIH is organized once a year for students to come up with solutions to problems posed by ministries, public sector units, Nongovernmental organizations, and industries.

Smart India Hackathon Eligibility Criteria

The students who study in class 6th to 12th or college students who are pursuing graduation and Post-graduation can participate in Smart India Hackathon and showcase their talent and problem-solving skills.

Smart India Hackathon Selection Process 

The hackathon will have problem statements from many ministries, NGOs, PSUs, and other leaders from the industry. After the announcement of problem statements, SPOC registration colleges and Universities will conduct an internal hackathon and shortlist candidates based on their performance. A total of five teams in addition to two waitlisted teams from the internal hackathon will have been shortlisted for the next round.

• Out of these five teams 4 can be chosen for blocked PSs and one for the students’ innovation category. Next team leaders for the selected team will submit ideas against PSs by college SPOC for the SIH 2024 final evaluation. The submitted solution will be evaluated for selecting the winners.

Application Procedure Under Smart India Hackathon 2024

• If you are a college-going student and pursuing graduation or post-graduation or want to register under SIH then first you have to visit Smart India website.

• The home page will appear on your screen where you have to click on the “Registration for college students” link.

• The registration page will appear on screen where you have to enter some details which are given below:
  • College code
  • State
  • District
  • City
  • Name
  • Mobile number
  • SPOC consent letter
  • Authority letter from the college
• After filling in all the details correctly, click on the registration button for the final submission of the application form.

Note- The college and school SPOC should be responsible to check each and every piece of data before submitting it. Do check the mobile number and email ID as they will be used for all future communication and verification.

Procedure for SPOC Registration for Schools

• First, you have to visit the official website of SIH.
• The home page will appear on a screen where you have to click on the “SPOC Registration for Schools” link.

• The registration page will appear on the screen where you have to enter the following details:
  • Select the school board
  • School name
  • School code
  • State 
  • District
  • City
  • Schools Faculty name
  • Mobile number
  • SPOC consent letter
  • Authority letter from the school
• After filling all the details correctly click on the registration button for the final submission of application form.

Registration for Colleges

• First, you have to visit the official website of SIH.
• The home page will appear on a screen where you have to click on the “SPOC Registration for Colleges” option
• A new page will open on the screen.

• Enter all the details to be filled in the application form.
• Check the details carefully before final submission.
• Now click on the register option and get yourself registered successfully

• The home page will appear on a screen where you have to find the “SIH Problem Statement” option
• A new page will open on the screen.

• Now on this page, you will find all the total statements related to hardware and software.
• You can also click on any option to select the theme, category, and Organisation
