Jackson White (Tell Me Lies) will star opposite Lily James in 20th Century Studios‘ and Ethea Entertainment’s upcoming untitled film inspired by the story of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder and former CEO of online dating platform Bumble, and co-founder of Tinder. Lily James will play the lead role and is set to produce alongside 20th Century and Ethea.
According to Deadline, it’s not entirely clear who White will be playing, but is set for the part of Herd’s love interest.
Plot details are vague and it’s unclear how close the film will follow the actual origin story.
Myha’la (Industry) will play a friend and colleague of Wolfe Herd’s.
Rachel Lee Goldenberg is directing the film from a script written by herself, Bill Parker and Kim Caramele.
James will produce alongside producer duo Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay. The project will include Gala Gordon as an Executive Producer, and Sarah Shepard will be overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios.
According to Deadline, Wolfe Herd famously left Tinder, after co-founding the dating app, in 2014. She went on to launch competitor Bumble that same year. In 2021, the company went public and when that transition happened, she officially became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31. Wolfe Herd would step down as CEO in 2023 but by then the app had now become massive successful with several divisions that are still thriving today.
The film is slated to begin shooting in LA early next month.
Currently, White stars opposite Grace Van Patten on the drama series Tell Me Lies, a twisted, modern love story based on Carola Lovering’s bestseller, which returns for its second season this year on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally.
