About the toccoa river
The Toccoa River is a 56-mile-long river located in Northern Georgia and Western North Carolina. The river begins in the Chattahoochee National Forest and flows into Lake Blue Ridge, where it is dammed, before continuing on to the Tennessee River. The river was once used for transport and trade by the Cherokee Indians, and later by European settlers. Today, the river is popular for recreational activities such as fishing, kayaking, and tubing. The Blue Ridge Dam and Reservoir, owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is an important source of hydroelectric power and flood control for the region. The Toccoa River is also used for agricultural irrigation in the surrounding areas.
