My husband seen Dr. Derner for a second opinion & let me just say worst mistake of his life! HE did a bunionectomy & several other things that he assured my husband were necessary, such fusions, straightening his ankle which was not an issue for him & the outcome was horrible! Years later now he needs full knee replacements in both knees because him having to put more pressure on his knee on the opposite side wearing down the cartilage. Now his other knee where the hurt foot is needs to be replaced from having to put all the pressure on it! I can't even begin to tell you how our life as a family has been affected. He had to give up the job he loved so much because he can barely walk. This doctor shouldn't have even did the surgeries he did on my husband because he is not an orthopedic surgeon. There are screws all over the place in his foot & ankle & he is in agonising pain every day. So my advice to you if considering him to be your podiatrist is, let him clip your toenails or maybe I mean maybe fix a hammer toe or two but DON'T allow him to do anything really to your foot please just don't.
Dr. Derner was recommended to me by a friend, and I found him to match all the superlatives that my friend cited. Besides being a warm, friendly, and kind physician, he knows his stuff! He is conservative in that he tries the tried and true methods prior to surgery, but when surgery is needed, he appears to be on top of the latest methods. Admittedly, there is usually a bit of wait time in the reception area prior to appointments, but he's well worth the wait. I highly recommend Dr. Derner. and I am so grateful to have found him.
Went to 4 other doctors and had 1 surgery by another doctor. Had difficult issues and Dr. Derner stuck with me throughout 5 surgeries. Always tried conservative methods first and saved surgery as a last resort. Explained things thoroughly and clearly. Always there when you need him. Best doctor around!!!
Dr Derner is a class act. Knowledgeable. Conservative. A people person. My other podiatrist wanted to operate on achilles tendon. He said no. Let's try new orthodics. It did the trick. Saved myself a lot of discomfort
Dr. Derner is a genius! I had already had bunion and hammertoe surgery on both feet by a dr. who obviously did not know what he was doing. Dr. Derner performed miracle surgery on my difficult feet using top notch , state of the art techniques, and now my feet are fabulous! He is the best out there, I cannot recommend him highly enough !!!
Dr Derner has operated on me many times and has also helped my family and friends. He gets me back on my feet quickly!

I was referred to Dr Derner by my daughter, who had both her feet fixed due to CMT Charcot Marie Tooth) that's his specialty. He rebuilt my high arched arthritic foot, straightened the hammerhead toes, removed bump on top and saved my middle toe (it was in worse shape than we realized.) When we called his office in pain on Sunday, he met us at Inova FFX hospital. He went over with his Interns how to fix the swelling pain & what to look for educating them & me. His son is an intern or Dr. Now also. Nurses, my daughter & I were all impressed. He is a true pro. We have so much Neuropathy, CMT, Pressure palsy and Arthritis in our family it a hard to trust anyone. I'm trying to get my brother to come stay this winter & have this surgery because he can barely walk also. He is great at answering all questions & not rushing you out unless your his last patient of the day. He slows down when needed them. Love this practice, highly recommend!
