Ione Skye Says Her "Serial Cheating" Destroyed Marriage to Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz

The Say Anything star and rapper got married in 1992, when she was 21 years old.

Throughout the 1990s, Say Anything star Ione Skye was married to Beastie Boys musician Adam Horovitz. The two officially divorced in 1999 and both moved on to new marriages. Now, almost 25 years later, the actor is revealing why their marriage ended, taking credit for what she calls "serial cheating."

On March 20, Page Six published excerpts from Skye's book proposal for a memoir titled Say Everything. In the book, the 52-year-old actor plans to delve into her past relationships, including her love affair with musician Anthony Kiedis, who she began dating when she was just a teenager, and her seven-year marriage to Horovitz. Read on to see what else she shared.

Skye married Horovitz (also known by his state name Ad-Rock) in 1992. They divorced in 1999 after having separated a few years earlier.

During an interview with the Sydney Opera House's Ideas at the House in 2022, Skye said of her marriage, "I got married at 21. I mean, it was really fun … It's still heartbreaking to me, because I almost feel like I really lost a brother—I mean, we were very romantic, and we had a great marriage. But I still find it painful."

Skye added, "I still feel sad, because it is hard when you divorce. You do lose, like, a best friend, if you don't stay friends."

She confesses that the marriage ended because of her infidelity.

As reported by Page Six, Skye writes in her proposal that her book will include an exploration of the "sexual seeking and serial cheating" she apparently did during her marriage to the Beastie Boys member.

The book will also cover her relationship with Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis, who was suffering from addiction at the time. She was 16 years old to his 24 when they began dating.

The letter notes that "leaving Kiedis for her great love, Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz, was an act of self-preservation. But her marriage at age 22 to Horovitz was undone by her almost pathological infidelities."

Skye is the daughter of singer Donovan and model Enid Karl. She has one brother, actor Donovan Leitch, who was friends with Horovitz. Page Six reports that on her podcast, Weirder Together, Skye has talked about Leitch being angry about "the girls" Skye was seeing during her marriage.

The pitch letter for the book seems to promise that some names readers know will come up in Skye's life story, noting "more celebs will be shagged than you can believe."

Horovitz married Le Tigre and Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna in 2006. Skye married musician Ben Lee in 2008. She and Lee have a daughter, Goldie; Skye also has a daughter named Kate from a previous relationship.

"I knew of [Lee] when he was in the band Noise Addict as he was signed to my ex-husband Adam Horowitz's record label," Skye told The Sydney Morning Herald in 2022. "I am eight years older than Ben. He is the most supportive husband and very good at getting me motivated because I can drift a little."

She also told Ideas at the House of her now-partner, "I have such a good marriage. Beyond. Like, the best, so I'm really lucky in love."
