Title: Middle School Social Science Teacher and Assistant Athletic Director

The Role. The Middle School Social Science Teacher must be a passionate and skillful teacher, who is eager to invest their talents in our middle school social science program. They must establish a supportive and engaging environment for middle school students (grades 6-8), demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula, work collaboratively with colleagues and parents, have excellent communication skills, and demonstrate teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of different teaching and learning styles. In addition, this teacher will have completed coursework or possess teaching experience in specific subfields of history and social sciences related to their teaching responsibilities.
The Assistant Athletic Director will assist the Director of Athletics with various duties throughout the school year as related to MVS athletics. They will embrace the MVS athletic philosophy and must have excellent communication and organizational skills. The Assistant Athletic Director assists the Director of Athletics in providing a high quality, competitive program that enriches the lives and enhances the educational growth of students in grades 4-12; promotes the image of the school; and supports the academic mission.

As a middle school social science teacher, you will teach a combination of Geography, Ancient Cultures, and American History (depending upon the needs each particular year).

Primary Responsibilities-Teaching:
Teach 2 sections of middle school social science Lead/Co-lead an Immersion program in January, and potentially develop and propose new Immersion programs Update Canvas, MVS’ Learning Management Software (LMS), and Blackbaud regularly to keep both students and families informed about student progress and performance Attend faculty meetings Fulfill all other faculty responsibilities that may occur outside the school day, including writing reports and planning, chaperoning student events, attending school-related functions, which include but are not limited to: Parent Information Night (PIN), Immersion PIN, Immersion Open House, and Middle School Closing Ceremonies Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students Lead 45-minute, SEL-focused advisory lesson once per cycle Oversee advisory lunch/commons clean-up 4-6 weeks per year and serve as “inside duty” person during those weeks Conference with advisees and families during designated conference times and other times as needed. Communicate individual student concerns, issues, and successes. Act as a point person for caregivers. Advise students about the best course of study available to that individual student, including Immersion. Support the school and its leadership as it relates to discipline and community service. Advisors are responsible for keeping track of the athletic activity and extracurriculars that their advisees participate in. Perform other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities-Athletics: Assist in the accuracy and updating of Schedule Star (athletic scheduling system) including transportation departure times/facility locations/recording scores at the completion of each competition Responsible for: implementation, utilization, and updating of Blackbaud by/for athletics. Work with the transportation department concerning bus/van departures as well as assisting coaches with securing keys and paperwork when vans are used Handle communication from MVS with all athletic teams - parents, coaches, and players - in particular practice schedules/game schedules/bus departures, but also questions concerning general athletic information Establish email groups for each athletic team in order to maintain communication for parents/players/coaches Coordinate registration each sports season for all athletic teams including required forms - physical, concussion, and sudden cardiac arrest as required by the OHSAA Assist all coaches with team communication/practice schedules/ and general questions and information Assist in tracking attendance of upper school athletes Enter PE credit for upper school athletes at the end of each sports season Assist director of athletics with OHSAA graduation requirements for student athletes Assist in the distribution and collection of uniforms Attend OHSAA parent meeting and coaches meetings Assist/support with Homecoming activities Assist in procuring and tracking workers for home basketball games Assist with End of Year Awards voting and program Assist the director of athletics and athletic site supervisor as needed Assist at home games as needed Assist and support director of athletics as requested
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or Master Degree in history or related field Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency (e.g., Google suite of applications, student information systems and online grade book programs) Desire to work with pre-teen and early adolescent students in an experiential and “hands-on” setting
