Two of the actors from the most talked-about 2023 movies are coming together for an upcoming project. Recently, Variety announced that Poor Things actor Willem Dafoe and Anatomy of a Fall actress Sandra Huller are set to star in a forthcoming film titled Late Fame. The film will explore the human relationship with ego and praise and how our interpretation of our own past can change depending on how we handle it.

Late Fame has been boarded by MK2 Films, the company behind the Oscar-nominated film Anatomy of a Fall. The production company will manage worldwide sales outside of North America. WME Independent, UTA Independent Film Group, and Cinetic Media will jointly represent North American rights. Additionally, Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon from Killer Films, known for producing Past Lives and May December, will be the producers.

What can be expected from ‘Late Fame’ starring Willem Dafoe and Sandra Huller?

A movie’s success can be interpreted by the cast members attached to it. As we talk about Late Fame, it has already booked two of the most acclaimed actors in the industry, Willem Dafoe and Sandra Hüller. While you will witness these actors on screen, the cast involved behind the camera can’t be ignored. The mastermind mind behind the story of the film is Samy Burch. The screenwriter is prominently known for writing the 2022 May December, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

According to the synopsis of the film: “Late Fame tells the story of Ed Saxberger (Dafoe), who wrote a book of poetry a long time ago that no one ever cared about. When a group of young artists rediscovers his work, he must reassess his genius. The wild card in the group is Gloria (Hüller), a talented and mercurial theatre actress who toys with affections and who is all set to be admired by Saxberger, this legendary figure from a gritty New York golden age.” Further the synopsis describes the film as “wickedly ironic and unexpectedly poignant.” The film explores the “illusory effect of praise on the soul, and the lingering ghostly presence of the past, whether it’s imagined or vividly remembered.”

High On Films in collaboration with Avanté

While the premise of the film seems already promising, what adds a layer of anticipation to the film is that Emmy-nominated filmmaker Kent Jones will be helming the film. The director is primarily known for directing films in the drama genre. He has directed several acclaimed dramas, including Diane (2018) and Aquarela (2018). He is no stranger to telling stories about how a legacy of works of art can be debated, so it will be exciting to see how he brings life to Burch’s screenplay.

The film will start shooting in NYC in the fall.
