Good intentions only take us so far, of course. Whenever Smyth moves away from the battlefield, the film is on shaky ground, with the near-comical scenes involving Strong's cowardly subordinate a real low point.

A poor movie on almost every level. Hardly a "True Story". More like a Forrest Gump comedy than a reasonably accurate adaptation of a historical event. Soppy dialogue and ridiculous battle scenes. The producers of this farce did a great disservice to the Irish soldiers.

I loved this movie, perfectly paced and plotted, the action sequences are great and the political intrigue does capture the complexities of the early '60's. Think Zulu set in 1961 and you have this movie pinned. The IMT are solid and show the Irishmen making and learning from mistakes. A must watch.
