Liverpool make move to sign Teun Koopmeiners as giants lead the race- sources

Liverpool have registered their interest in signing Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners but are not in pole position to agree a deal, sources have told Football Insider

The Reds are in contract with the Dutch international’s agents over bringing him to Anfield this summer.

Juventus are currently leading the race to sign the 26-year-old, offering him the option to remain in Italy beyond this season.

The attacking midfielder, whose contract with the Serie A club is set to run until 2027, was outstanding in both Europa League quarter-finals against Liverpool last month.

Arne Slot could help Liverpool sign Teun Koopmeiners

Anfield chiefs were clearly impressed by Koopmeiners’s performances and have now taken the step of registering their interest in a potential deal.

The Dutchman stands a good chance of reaching the Europa League final this season, with his side currently level on aggregate with French club Marseille after the first leg.

Liverpool will be keen to persuade the midfielder a move to the Premier League could be the best avenue to take his game to the next level after impressing in Serie A.

Koopmeiners would add plenty of creativity for the Reds after registering 15 goals and six assists in all competitions this season.

Arne Slot, who is expected to replace Jurgen Kopp at Anfield, could potentially hand the Reds an advantage in the race to sign Koopmeiner’s after previously managing him at former club AZ Alkmaar.

Football Insider revealed last month Liverpool have agreed to pay Feyenoord £10million in compensation to make Slot their new manager.

Anfield chiefs will be hoping the Dutch boss can mount a serious title bid next season after falling short in Klopp’s final year at the helm.

In other news, Liverpool want to sign two Arne Slot favourites this summer.
