Editorial Reviews
UK three CD set containing expanded editions of all three albums from British rock legend Bram Tchaikovsky. Born Peter Bramall in November 1950, Bram Tchaikovsky first came to prominence as a member of the pub rock band The Motors in 1977. Following his decision to leave The Motors, Bram opted to form his own eponymous power pop band, with Mike Broadbent on bass and keyboards, and Keith Boyce on drums. The trio signed to the Radar label in 1978 and went on to achieve a US Top 40 hit in 1979 with 'Girl of My Dreams'. Several band member changes and two albums later, Bram Tchaikovsky made the decision to split from the band and retire from the music business entirely. This lovingly assembled package, fully endorsed by Bram Tchaikovsky himself, contains all three Bram Tchaikovsky albums Strange Man, Changed Man (1979), The Russians Are Coming (1980) and Funland (1981), plus all of the band's singles, b-sides and alternative versions from 1978-1981. Includes the singles 'Sarah Smiles', 'Lullaby of Broadway', 'Girl of My Dreams', 'I'm The One That's Leaving', 'Let's Dance', 'Stand & Deliver' and 'Shall We Dance?'. Presented in a special clam shell box set, complete with individual disc wallets featuring the original albums' artwork. Includes booklet with full sleeve notes focusing on the musical career of Bram Tchaikovsky. All material contained within has been remastered for the best sound possible.

As for this collection, after listening to my worn out vinyl for all of these years (and some horribly mastered cds), the sound quality and clarity absolutely jumps out of the speakers. The first CD alone is worth the price of the collection. Absolutely stunning song writing mixed with excellent performance and production keeps this from being lost to any particular genre. It is that perfect blend of pop, pub rock, punk, New wave power pop and straight ahead rock and roll. For my 2 cents, one of the finest albums of the 70s and beyond and would be included in my 10 discs for a desert island.
The second album continues the excitement of the first with only a slight decline and I will have to give Funland, the third disc a lot more listens to bring myself to the familiarity I have with the first two.
I cannot give a higher recommendation to a collection of recorded work than I do for this one.
But it now as their work seems to disappear from the market rather quickly. Hopefully this will all be released for download so I can take it with me on my travels.
It's about time and we'll worth the wait.
I decided that it was worth the money for this set to finally get Strange Man on cd.
I was a bit disappointed in the mix of this LP however. It is a bit muddy sounding. I can't remember if the vinyl sounded better or not- maybe this is how they were originally recorded? Having said that it was great to hear this release again after so many years!
My big surprise was how much I enjoyed the second release- The Russians are coming. While it does not have the classic tunes from the first release it is a worthy second effort.
The final disc I have only begun to take in, but it seems to not live up to the first two discs. The bonus tracks are nice but not essential. I also liked the little cardboard sleeves the discs come in- recreating the original LP covers!
ALSO- If this is music you enjoy I strongly recommend the 3 disc set "Harmony in my Head". This is an extremely good compilation of music from this era.
This set doesn't disappoint! You get everything (except the recent live recording (Live at Lochem Festival) that was released on iTunes) Bram Tchaikovsky released and in a quality that it demands. The band may not have had much in the way of radio play outside of Girl of My Dreams, but even the up-and-down Funland record, deserved better treatment from the radio. Each record was brilliant in its own way and with this set, you get all of that brilliance at a very affordable price (I paid lots more for the Japanese pressing of The Russians are Coming).
