Beach House Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Boy number one made a picnic for two
Saw he was nervous, I thought it was cute
Until I found out that his mom made the food
It was good though
Boy number two had a beautiful face
I highly agreed to go back to his place
His wife really had some impeccable taste
She was sweet though

[Pre-Chorus]
I've been on this ride
This roller coaster's a carousel
And I'm getting nowhere

[Chorus]
Boys around the world, I want to believe that
When you chase a girl, it's not just huntin' season
"I can see the future," say it like you mean it
"I got a beach house in Malibu
And I'm probably gonna hurt your feelings"

[Post-Chorus]
"I'm probably gonna hurt your feelings"
"I'm probably gonna hurt you"

[Verse 2]
Boy number twelve had a look in his eyes
Brought up his ex and he started to cry
Told me he loved me the very first night
Oh, no
Who knows what I'm in for with
Boy number I-can't-keep-count-anymore?

[Pre-Chorus]
I've been on this ride
This roller coaster's a carousel
And I'm getting nowhere

[Chorus]
Boys around the world, I want to believe that
When you chase a girl, it's not just huntin' season
"I can see the future," say it like you mean it
"I got a beach house in Malibu
And I'm probably gonna hurt your feelings"

[Bridge]
I'm probably gonna hurt you
Got a weekend in paradise
And I'm probably gonna never call you

I'm probably gonna hurt you
I got big plans to take care of you
I just need to borrow ten thousand dollars

I'm probably gonna hurt you
I got a lake house in Canada
And I'm probably gonna harvest your organs

I'm probably gonna hurt you
I got a beach house in Malibu
And I'm probably gonna hurt your feelings

[Chorus]
Boys around the world, I want to believe that
When you chase a girl, it's not just huntin' season
"I can see the future," say it like you mean it
"I've got a beach house in Malibu
And I'm probably gonna hurt your feelings"

About

Genius Annotation

“Beach House” is the second single from The Loneliest Time, Carly Rae Jepsen’s fifth studio album, and it does not pull its punches. Putting the “brutal” in “brutally honest,” it laments the chaos of the modern dating scene, particularly for women who date men. The song’s speaker recounts her dates with “boy number one” through “boy number I-can’t-keep-count-anymore,” and articulates the subtext of what they’re really saying when they claim to be boyfriend material: “I’ve got a beach house in Malibu, and I’m probably gonna hurt your feelings.”

I briefly joined a dating app, which led to Beach House. It was my sister’s fault. She really talked me into it. And loneliness, as I said, causes extreme reactions. And some of those are to do with things that you would never think you would ever do. I would have sworn this was not something I would try, but I tried it. It was funny. It was mostly funny, I think, but terrifying, too. And then the more that I talked to other friends who had been on these apps, the more hilarity that came in. Like, everyone had a horror story. Some people had success, but there was a song idea in there for sure. And I got really excited about that. I brought in Alex Hope and Nate Cyphert. I think at first, they were like ‘What’s the concept?’ And I’m like ‘The concept is people who are in it to play a game, not the people who are in it to find love.’ I’m all for, I’m not against dating apps, actually. I want to be clear about that. I think that they can be a wonderful and sometimes easiest best way to kind of meet some people that might not be in your community. But I think the people who are out there just to kind of play a wicked game with you and play with your feelings, those people need to be called up. And this is what that song is for.
