Canyon Lodge and Cabins is a sprawling facility, featuring the most accommodations in Yellowstone with more than 500 rooms and cabins. Located on the east side of the park near the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, Canyon Lodge is open from the beginning of June through early October. In 2016, a two-year lodging redevelopment was completed resulting in 5 new lodges and a total of 400-plus guest rooms that include 2-Bedroom Suites, Superior Lodge Rooms and Standard Lodge Rooms. All 5 new lodges are LEED Certified. The main public building that houses the restaurants and gift shop was redesigned and reopened in 2017.

Services I think are tough generally b/c of the COVID year so that being said the location was beautiful and the rooms were really clean and looked as though they had been recently updated.
No wifi in the rooms (just lobby and restaurant) BUT had access to cell/data so no issues making calls etc. This location had more to offer in the way of food options and a general store that was large and stocked.
I would say, don't expect "gourmet" food anywhere in the park or if you have food issues that you generally navigate around you really need to be prepared and pack a cooler and even consider toting a toaster over or something. There are VERY few options. You won't starve in Yellowstone but if you're picky ... you might lose a few lbs.

We stayed at the Canyon Lodge (can’t remember which building - one of the newer ones) for 2 nights of our 5 night 6 day trip. The building was fairly new and the rooms were clean and up to date. There aren’t really any nice exciting views from the lodge, but there is a shopping/dining complex nearby. We stayed here for proximity to Lake Yellowstone and the Upper/Lower Yellowstone Falls.
There’s nothing to really critique or praise about this location. I believe it’s the nicest, newest lodging available within the park.
We had quite a wait during check in, and it sounded like some guests were having issues with room availability (they may have booked through a third party vendor).
Nearby dining options included the M66 Canyon Lodge Bar and Grill and the Canyon Lodge Eatery which are connected. The eatery is basically a cafeteria with several options of average tasting food. The bar and grill serves higher quality food and is obviously more expensive.

We stayed here recently on our trip through Yellowstone. We stayed in the Moran lodge and had a corner suite. The room itself was lovely, but the layout was a little strange (ie the patio is off of one bedroom instead of the main living space). The bathroom is huge and having a kitchen sink was really nice. The grounds around the lodge are lovely as well.
What was not lovey however, was the staffing and services available at this lodge. I understand that we are living with Covid now (thanks to all of you who refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated) and that because of Covid things are closed and understaffed. However, what I do not understand is that the Canyon lodge and campground have more than 1000 rooms and sites combined and yet there is basically no food available here right now. Upon checking in, we were told that we needed to get to the eatery at 4:45 unless we wanted to stand in a 2+ line. I get it, National parks are busy, but having this set up was a recipe for disaster. If you are staying this year, be prepared with a cooler for all 3 meals, but remember you cannot cook in your room. When I asked the manager why these places were not available to be for the guests of the campground and the lodge only he said that the NPS would not allow that, even though the Lake dining room was only for hotel guest until August 13th this year.
We were also informed upon checking in that the hotel was out of coffee cups and creamer. The entire hotel was out of these things.
Honestly, this is probably a great place for families, but I will never stay here again. The hotel itself seems very poorly run. I’m not sure if this is a Xanterra thing or a Canyon thing, but either way, I wouldn’t stay again.

Despite the numerous bad reviews, we took a chance based on the good reviewsa and very pleased that we did. Yes, it’s a bit pricey if you compare by price to other hotels not in a national park but you are paying for the location. We had a superior lodge room & it was perfect for our needs. The beds were comfortable, the room was spacious and we appreciated that the sink area was separate from the shower and toilet so that two people could get ready at the same time or use the bathroom facilities. I did read a review where someone said they were cold so we brought in the travel blankets from our car. That worked perfectly, we would have been cold without the extra layer. Having said that, we both prefer a room on the cold side rather than too warm as you can layer for added warmth. We did have a fridge, which we were not expecting but happy to have except that it made a very loud hum and had a super bright blue light on the front that lit the room. Aside from these two minor things, we enjoyed the room with a small table next to the window which we could open. We got take out from the dining area two nights — my friend is vegan and found suitable options. The food is edible and relatively healthy, though I wish they would stock kombucha that does not have added sugar. We very much appreciated all the safety precautions taken by staff and the social distancing requirements. The location is perfect, we enjoyed two great hikes and sightseeing at the canyon. We also appreciated the different trash receptacles to recycle as much as possible and the tap for refilling water bottles in the lodge lobby. All staff that we encountered — at check in, the diner, gift shop $ visitor center were pleasant, helpful and being safe. I will say that the cabins did not look desirable to us due to the location and reviews saying they are hard to maintain comfortable temperature as well as noisy. The lodge we stay in (Chittenden) was very clean and had solid room doors but the noise insulation was not great. A baby was in the room next to us for one night and we could hear her or him crying throughout the night. Finally, yes it was hard to get used to not having wi-fi or cell access but we knew that in advance and we did come here for the nature. It turned out to be a wonderful break from technology for four days we were in the park, thank you Yellowstone! We did have wi-fi at the lodge that worked well — I don’t know what other people are complaining about — so we could check in with family and look up stuff about sights we wanted to see. Why you would want to come to this incredible natural place and stay connected the entire time beats me.

The cost of the stay was over $500. I understand the location is good for visiting the park but the price is so excessive on every level.
The room we were given was very similar to Army accommodation or school camp accommodation. Very, very simple rooms with no TVs or other basic amenities such as a microwave. As there are so few places to get a meal a microwave is pretty important.
The rooms themselves have paper thin walls which mean you can hear EVERYTHING from the rooms next door. Temperature control in the rooms is also poor and the amount of bedding provided was inadequate.
Many review speak to the lack of wi fi on the property. Again, notwithstanding the remoteness of the location wi fi is a basic and essential service and should be provided. If cruise ships can provide it there is no reason the hotel cannot get itself organized and provide this simple service for its customers.
The only redeeming feature of this property is its location which they clearly play off in terms of the ridiculous price of their hotel.
Would not recommend - find somewhere else.

We stayed in one of the western cabins for $430/night, and it was 2 beds and a very small table, shower, and toilet. Nothing more. Great location--we stayed here because we heard horror stories about getting into and out of the park. However, on the last leg of our trip we stayed at the Yellowstone Inn just outside of the park (Gardiner MT) and were soo much happier! And the entry into the park never took more than a couple of minutes.
Also, just be aware that there is minimal food available within the park, and be prepared to pay an inordinate amount of money for tasteless, prepackaged food (such as a tuna salad sandwich for ($9).
But it was clean, so there's that!!
The park itself is amazing and definitely God's masterpiece. JUST WOW.

I'm not sure why I booked this "cabin" instead of one of a room in the lodge(s) here in Canyon Village, but I suppose it sounded pretty cool. Turns out there is nothing "cabin" about it. It's basically two double-wide trailers put together with a roof over them and then they are divided into 4 "cabins". Add to that, it looks like they are right out of the 1970's, dated and in need of paint, new roofs, new stairs, etc. The flooring was vinyl and stained indoor/outdoor carpet. Add Covid to that and you have no ice-buckets (!!!), no coffee maker, no micro, no tv and voila'..... you have a clean but very unpleasant room that still cost over $350/night! Then throw in the fact that there is zero restaurant facilities on the premises. The only option for dining is in the strip center adjacent to the complex of lodges/cabins and that consists of a cafeteria with low-end options at best. It is a dismal scenario to be sure. Yes, there were road closures that made this location useless as far as not be able to access the east park exits without backtracking for miles, but it was all due to an RV fool who turned in front of a gasoline tanker and caused a 3,000 gallon gasoline spill which took over a week to rectify. No way to predict that. But basically, staying in Canyon Village is not a great option unless you bring lots of food and a coffee maker. The cabin room did back up to the forest, but there's no chairs to sit outside so it isn't worth much, plus it's all posted with "Bear Aware" signs. The "Cabin" is not worth the money, but I would think the newer lodge rooms would be a better value...maybe. Having said all that, there were lots of people staying both at the "cabins" and lodge rooms, but I'll bet the other "cabin" patrons were no more pleased than we were.

My husband and I stayed in a ground floor room in one of the newer buildings of this hotel complex. The windows opened to let in a nice breeze and the screens kept the mosquitos outside... The room had 2 queen sized beds, and a very nice bathroom with the sink area outside the toilet and shower-tub room.
There were 3 wooden coat hangers for each person. Luckily I travel with a few plastic hangers in my bag so I can layer slacks on one and shirts on another. The room and bath were both immaculate. The lodge had suffered an emergency shut down earlier due to massive flooding in summer of 2022. We were able to transfer to the Canyon Lodge from Grant Village when the Canyon Lodge re-opened on June 29, 2022.
We would definitely recommend the Canyon Lodge as a pleasant and relaxing place to stay. Just be aware that there is no TV anywhere in Yellowstone lodging. The Wi-Fi reception was somewhat spotty, but far superior to that available at other sites in the National Park. The location of Canyon Lodge is a fair drive from some points of interest but the newness, and the brightness of the rooms more than make up for any inconvenience regarding distances to drive.
The dining room had not yet opened when we were there. However, we made reservations at the Yellowstone Lake Hotel Dining Room [the big yellow hotel] and had several delightful dinners there during our stay. In addition the Canyon Lodge area offers a nice large building with an extensive food court and coffee bar on offer.
The main reason for staying inside the park is to save driving in from neighboring areas every morning and driving back home in the evening. Yes, the rooms are expensive [>$300 per night] but the convenience of being close to points of interest more than outweigh the cost. Plus, as Seniors, we have done more than our fair share of camping and roughing it on Scouting outings and vacations in our younger years!

We were really excited to take our family vacation to Yellowstone. When we booked our room their website said limited food services but should have said practically non-existing. There is a diner and a grill on the Canyon grounds. The diner was a ridiculous wait for sub par food, especially for the price. The grill closed early and once you did get in, you received half frozen fries with your burgers etc. There is a small grocery store on the grounds if you want to pay 5x the normal price of items. That's no exaggeration.
They had no housekeeping due to Covid. I understand that one but when we arrived they stated they would take off five dollars a night. That's a little ridiculous. They acted like they were doing you a favor with that.
We stayed in the lodge across from the main lodge. For four days there were smashed strawberries in the entry way on the tile and they were still there when we left.
Internet access is extremely limited. I understand that. They did inform us you could get their wi-fi in the main lodge lobby but that was intermittent. You had to walk around looking for the best place. The room itself was clean and being able to open the windows was a huge plus. I think that was the only plus. The very odd garbage disposal in the room is unreal Kudos for being environmentally friendly however if you are going to do that, let everyone know you aren't cleaning it. It's separated into recycle, compost and landfill. Do you want to smell leftover food etc in your room for your stay? The price you pay for the lodge is definitely not worth it. If you stay there you basically get somewhere that you don't get wet if it rains. We observed numerous people complaining at the front desk anytime we were in the lobby. You definitely need to either stay outside the park or tent camp. We would have had better amenities camping.

Just returned from a one week stay here. The only good thing I can say was that the cabin was clean and there was plenty of hot water. Aside from this the whole experience was awful. No room service of any kind, getting clean towels was a mission, you have to take out your own trash daily. They justify this saying it’s due to COVID, but that’s just an excuse since not one person is maintaining social distancing and no one is wearing a mask. The food service was beyond terrible, supplies were constantly low, half the items on the menu were not available. I guess it’s too much to ask to have coffee and creamer for breakfast, never mind yogurt or fresh fruit. Or to expect them not to runout of every protein at dinner except for one. The only thing that made this trip worthwhile was the majesty of the park itself. But the company running the show should be ashamed of themselves.

We only stayed in the cabin and loved it. However, when the weather is cold, the bathroom is a fridge. The positive is there were no parking issues.
You can hike from the cabin section to the lookout on the canyon. You can then hike along the rim of the canyon. They will give you a map when you check in. The trails are very nice, paved in parts, and easy to navigate. Just bring water. And enjoy!
I don't know of any I drove to yellowstone Inn for a wonderful morning tour .
Yes they had a small coffee maker in the room by the sink with packets of coffee and tea next to it. FYI, There was sugar but no creamer.
Not in June. We had to go to the campground to do laundry. We had to be done by 9 pm
