When Sammy Blais passed a questionable comment on his sister's Instagram photo

Back in 2022, after the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers were eliminated from contention, star forward Connor McDavid and his then-Rangers counterpart Sammy Blais made headlines for their antics off the rink.

It all started when McDavid was seen getting intimate with a woman who was clearly not his girlfriend Lauren Kyle while out on the town.

The person recording the footage shouted out to McDavid, causing him to wheel around. The person continued:

"Hey buddy, just because you play hockey doesn't mean nobody will identify you stumbling drunk down the middle of the street with someone who isn't your partner."

Hockey fans then discovered this bizarre comment from Sammy Blais under one of his sister's Instagram photos. Many took to Twitter to respond to the viral comment.

The criticism he received prompted him to release a statement, saying:

"Although we are aware that French Canadians operate somewhat differently, why are you here now? Needless to say, the goalie was removed as soon as the puck nuts learned of these tales. Man, the contest is over."

Sammy Blais' NHL career and contract details

The St. Louis Blues chose Sammy Blais in the sixth round with pick No. 176 of the 2014 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut on October 14, 2017, in a 2–1 defeat to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Blais remained with the Blues until 2021, when he moved to the New York Rangers. In the exchange that sent Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola to New York, he was traded back to St. Louis on Feb. 9, 2023, and on March 2, he inked a one-year contract.

For the 2022–23 season, Blais will earn $1,525,000 in salary and will have a $1,525,000 cap hit.
