TRIGGERED
did you watch Bang dream too......
context for someone that hasn't watch Bang Dream?
There's an INCREDIBLY awkward 5 minute scene that involves them singing that song on a stage in front of a dead quiet audience to stall for time. I almost turned inside out from cringing so hard.
kira kira hikaru~
Poor girls, but in the end it actually worked!
AND IT WAS FANTASTIC xD
That's not fair, it cuts out all the parts in between where people are like "tf is this shit" lol. I will concede that she's at least very cute. BanG Dream recent episodes spoilers
they play the song for like 6 episodes
two seasons and a movie
fuck off nicole i don't need your jumpscares today
That was like the only BanG Dream! scene that I found cringey.
I'm really loving BanG Dream!
I think we've found best guy
Tell me about Arisu, why does she wear the mask?
NO ONE CARED WHO I WAS UNTIL I PUT ON THE MASK
She's a big girl.
UUUU
Well she said she keeps people away with her headphones so maybe along that same wavelength?
OF COURSE
Was answering OF COURSE part of your plan?
All according to kekaku!
You're a big subber.
It will probably be introduced in Flashbacks since they are doing that instead of putting when they were younger as the first episodes.
If you really want to know now anonymous noise manga
Are main characters retarded? Honestly, every action by main heroine is so cringe.
Pretty sure she is literally autistic
I came here to ask the same question. Glad im not the only one who thinks this.
Manga reader here, I was coming in with low expectations, since the adaptation would have to pretty much invent the musical sequences from 0. The manga's style is darker and more jagged, which fits really well with how edgy and emo it gets. Its fast pace didn't go over well into the adaptation either. But the thing I dislike the most is that without the backstory from 6 years ago there's literally zero tension. If they used at least half of the first episode for that, a lot of the things happening during the 2 live concerts would've made more sense to newcomers.
Basically, this show would've been much better, if it had an episode 0.
Did you check Episode 2 Title? If you did, you would know next episode is gonna be about the backstory.
Maybe they'll do a backstory episode later one.
Basically, this show would've been much better, if it had an episode 0.
It's only the first episode... A lot of anime goes into backstory after a few episodes.
As I've already said, without context to their actions, the tension is lost. There definitely will be a lot of flashbacks later into the show, but that is too late.
It's actually because they switched it around. The first few chapters were about Nino's Childhood with Momo and Yuzu, but they switched it around in the anime for it to be the 2nd episode.
My guess is because it doesn't have any actual music performances in the childhood, so to get people hooked on the music, they switched the episodes around.
Hot damn everybody has humongous eyes.
Fluid engaging character dynamics, fairly heavy drama juxtaposed with a very comedic tone and a love triangle romance to top it all off.
I'm down for this, solid first episode.
Please don't be like "fuuka". Please don't go bad.
Inb4 she ends up with the blondie. But since this seems like a typical shoujo, i guess not.
Rip miou. Best friend syndrome op.
Yes, yes. It's finally here, one of the series I was highly expecting since it's PV a few months back.
I was hoping it would be a shoujo with some music theme on the side, but it seems it will be heavily dozed with music, and I dig that a lot.
So, Arisu is taller than Yuzu. I'm already getting Lovely Complex vibes. Yuzu even carries a carton of milk to ensure his growth, a lot like Ootani.
I can't get enough of the designs in the characters, big eyes, long defined eyelashes, both discrete and full on blushes. Speaking of blushes, Yuzu gets all red up to his ears.
Boy! the love triangle is settling in quite fast, hope we don't get a lot of beating around the bush in the rest of the cour.
The title of next episode is quite scary "God, I pray that Alice's love will never be realized". That's some grim wish, I wonder if Yuzu is the one that came up with it.
The twinkle twinkle little star song brought me horrid flashbacks from Bangdori. Hope the animators of Xebec would learn a thing or two how to make a proper live from the two events shown in the pilot. Animation wise and music wise the series is quite capable of delivering, specially music wise, I like how Alice's singing (saori's voice) is rough and blunt, making a huge distinction to Miou's singing.
The series has fulfilled my expectations and beyond. This season has some great romance titles (and we still have to watch Zuka zuka)
Chihayafuru: the musical
Yeah, it's 10 days later, but I just saw this, and holy crap is this applicable.
There is definitely something going on with this one. I mean... You know that shit is strong when it manages to make me cringe when WataMote didn't make me bat an eye.
It oozes melodrama and mixed with music, I just can't handle it.
Nino sings a somewhat calm melody ; the drawing paired with it looks like she's screaming atop of her lungs. Mhhh ok.
Yuzu is a multi-instrumentalist writing shit pro-level kinda shit on the fly at age 17 (most likely). Like, what?....
And finally you have Momo, most likely leader of In NO Hurry and the reason number 1 they disbanded, who's an edgy mofo. And that means most likely band leader of a commercially successful band at 17... A-Ok, sir. Now tell me why those guy haven't made waves in the world of Music?...
I guess it's love, but anyway. The moment Nino starts screaming all of a sudden on stage is when I just had to take a break. Threw away the headphones, lied on the side for a bit to brace up for the incoming cringe...
I love my melodrama, I love my love polygons, I love music. But holy shit... I don't know what went wrong, but something went very wrong with this for me. I'm probably just gonna stop there. I actually don't like any of the characters and I don't want to know more about them either. They just all seem unbelievable insufferable. Except maybe Nino when she doesn't go full cringe mode and starts singing shit and saying emo teen shit (like "STOP ME").
Big fat nope.
Ah Saori singing <3
So we've already got the workings of our shoujo love triangle, right now I'm so on team Momo. Yuzu is too clasic shoujo MC mixed in with comedic attributes.
I feel so bad for her... hope she gets to end up with the loser of the triangle at least! Thankfully Nino is cute as well so I'll be happy rooting for her.
Ah! Saori? I thought so!
Just started the episode, but decided to check in here to confirm my suspicions!
honestly she just looks like hanabi in another animation lmao
This was a decent start to the Shojo Romance of the season. A bit packed. It's episode one and they've already introduced a weird 4 person love triangle, or I guess a love line. And we got two songs in one episode!!
Overall though I liked what I saw and look forward to what is coming next.
or I guess a love line
Let's not bring Adam and Dr. Drew into this, they'll just kill our buzz
Music was decent, better than most other band anime imo. Probably worth watching but the art is kinda off-putting.
the art is kinda off-putting
That's shoujo artstyle 101
I can kind of tolerate the art style, at times I actually really like it with the whole "punk noise" vibe it's giving off.
But the animation really bothers me. The way she's animated while singing that little tune gives of an image of a wailing dog rather than a maiden performing an enchanting melody.
Also, the bright flashing lights during the concert sequences may distract from it, but the CG flailing is still very much visible.
The way she's animated while singing that little tune gives of an image of a wailing dog rather than a maiden performing an enchanting melody.
Well, for that style of music, a wailing dog is closer to how the singer usually looks and sounds rather than a maiden performing an enchanted melody. It seemed to fit the punk-ish style of the song pretty well.
So Yuzu wants to keep her to himself, while somehow she has a voice for Momo. Aren't both their names kinda girly? Guess that's a shoujo for ya lol
But uh... I can't really understand why she just bursted out like that with a song that crazy.
tbh I'm disappointed. it looked so cool! the general art direction and character designs ARE neat (especially Nino) but everything else was...just forgettable.
after 22 minutes, I feel like I should at least have some idea of Nino as a person, but I don't.
This was a pretty nice start...it somehow reminds me of a similar manga I've read but I think it was a guy singing on that one and I can't recall the title at all...
I can see some hints of a love triangle already, but I'm not sure who I'm cheering for yet...both Yuzu and Momo seem to have their own issues (and both disappeared in the past?). Need to see more of the characters to tell. I'll cheer for OnoD's chara by himself for now, who seemed like a pretty cheerful character :D
I liked the last song, it was a nice change from Hayami Saori's sweet sounding tracks, even though it sounded rough. I enjoyed the more passionate but broken approach.
And looking forward to the rest!

#TeamYuzu
(and both disappeared in the past?).
Yeah, and at the same time (six years ago)? After greeting Yuzu so warmly it appears she had feelings for Momo. That's rather odd how she was switching from one character to another. Guess Yuzu was just a close friend or something after all...
Got a similar feel out of it, too, like she liked Momo but thought Yuzu was a good friend? Yuzu probably felt differently though (as in he might have liked her more than a friend) >.<
This was a pretty nice start...it somehow reminds me of a similar manga I've read but I think it was a guy singing on that one and I can't recall the title at all...
Beck? Wild shot here, haven't watched the first episode of this yet.
No, I'm pretty sure it was a shoujo manga. Thanks for trying though!
but I'm not sure who I'm cheering for yet...both Yuzu and Momo seem to have their own issues (and both disappeared in the past?).
#TeamMomo
I'll cheer for OnoD's chara by himself for now, who seemed like a pretty cheerful character :D
He seemed pretty playboy at the start but I like his dedication to the club.
#TeamMomo
It's the one I wanted to cheer for when I saw him enter the gym but...let's be honest, he's voiced by Uchiyama, he's probably the character with the most issues, lol.
He seemed pretty playboy
He did but I love that tone he gets when he sounds like he did at the start
This time I'm not gonna pick a side, it never ends well for me if I do :/
I'm not impressed with the CGI but oh man oh man this show definitely screams Shoujo! I'm saying this now, if you're not a fan of the classic shoujo tropes then you'll probably won't enjoy this show.
I'm definitely following this though especially since we get to hear more Saori Hayami singing! Damn this girl have some serious pipes on her. Also I'm a sucker for shoujo, and it looks like this one is gonna be filled with drama :D
Dark horse of Spring. Calling it now.
The singing is great so far.
The song really reminds me of Coaltar of the Deepers. Pretty great.
Yeah, that song was more than decent. If the visuals had been equally that good during the concert scenes, than this could have been an outstanding first episode.
And the Coaltars of the Deepers having mentioned, I do wish that they would do more songs for anime. Aside from MPD, I think they haven't done any.
The composer is actually NARASAKI from Coaltar of the Deepers
I saw this episode at Anime Boston at the beginning of the month so I've been waiting for this thread for a while.
While the premise seems right up my alley, neither the music nor love triangle aspects are particularly appealing to me right now. The songs don't stand out at all to me and I already foresee the pair of one-way crushes being a drawn-out mess.
It's almost certainly one I'm going to stick with to the end, but the elements aren't clicking for me yet.
A boy with glasses? Voiced by Uchiyama Kouki? Sign me the fuck up!
If there's more band performances like the one in this episode, count me in for the long haul.
Garage Punk J-Rock, I'm all in for that.
This was really nice! I'm very interested to see where it goes. Both as a music Anime and as a romance Anime it interests me, and the two themes are connected very strongly, which is great. The characters seem to have a really unique connection, which makes them together a lot more interesting, and I'm really interested to learn more about the characters in general. It was a tad on the overdramatic side at times, but overall this was pretty good! I'm looking forward to seeing more of what this show has to give. I'm not sure about the love triangle, but it definitely interests me.
Nice start, nice music band ! A good suprise after all :)
First episode in and we already got the foundations for 2 love triangles with Momo and Yuzu--->Nino on top of Miou looking at Yuzu.
I'm a sucker for shoujos so I'm already hyped to see what this show has to offer.
Manga reader here. The CGI was kind of jarring but the rest was brilliant- from Nino's rough singing to the direction of the episode. I was really afraid that they would mess up on the music part.
Not to mention that I found the order of the adaption of the events better in the anime compared to the manga, which starts off with the backstories. I was excited that this was getting an anime, because it can work so much better as one rather than a manga. Hopefully the coming episodes will keep the quality.
Yuzuriha??? Well, we already know who best gir--- that's a guy?????
Oh god, that felt way too rushed, we already have a dumb love triangle+1 and it just has "Stupid Drama" written all over it...
Edit: Welp, judging from the comments in this thread i think i should just stay away from romance shoujo anime... to be hoesnt i had no idea this was a shoujo when i added it to my PTW.
This is very Shoujo so if you aren't into that then yeah it's probably best not to watch it
Meeh, i want to watch some shoujo that i think i will probably enjoy, even if they are not as good as i expect them to be they can still seem better if i watch ones i don't like such as this one :D
Have you watched Nana?
Nana isn't shoujo, it's Josei, and a very harsh one
It actually is considered Shoujo not Josei, partly because it was published in a shoujo magazine not a Josei one.
The story and themes are closer to Josei, but it still is a shoujo not a josei.
Nope, it is in my PTW :P
I am personally rooting for Yuzu right now, but I just have a really strong feeling that Momo will win. I hope the anime proves me wrong.
Finally, someone who agrees with me!
Rare to see that around on reddit these days.
Is this show not available on Crunchyroll? It says its on there but I cant find it.
Pretty much everywhere but the US gets it on Crunchyroll. For US, Amazon got exclusivity. And then they made it a massive pain in the ass to find on their service, on top of the 2 paywalls. Sucky service, but still great show.
Pretty much everywhere
It says in the OP that it's only available in 7 countries. Most of the world can't legally watch the show in English at all.
That's usually the case with most anime, sigh.
I dunno. There's a decent number of shows on CR that are streaming worldwide sans Asia, and Amazon has a few that are also streaming worldwide. This show however is streaming in possibly the least regions of almost anything.
Are you in the US? It looks like Amazon has the US rights, while Crunchy has UK, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland.
Over all the points of view I've read here, I think this episode showed Nino has a great voice (even if some of you aren't fully sure) and a talent for singing. They didn't have to mention that 14 times per second to make it clear, that's cool.
God yes, this first episode was soooo good! Now this is what I wanted from Fuuka last season, but this is so much better! I don't even care about the CG during the performances, the music was great and I love the characters already!
I feel so good for Alice, being able to reunite with the person she's been looking for all those years, and already she's on track to reuniting with her dear friend from childhood.
Really enjoyed the music
not sure about the setting just now, but I think from the information we had beforehand a love triangle is likely to happen and i am not sure if i like that
will stay for the music tho
Boy, I know shoujo stuff is overwrought and melodramatic, but this is next level.
MY HEART WILL FOREVER BELONG TO THAT KID THAT USED TO LIVE NEXT DOOR TO ME THAT I PLAYED WITH FOR A WHILE WHEN I WAS A KID.
Am I the only one that barely even remembers a name or a face from the people I hung out with in elementary school?
Definitely dropping this one. I just found myself frustrated for almost the entire episode. A bit too emo and I hate this kind of setup. Have fun.
Yeah, this looks like it'll be Teen Angst: The Anime. I'm a bit too old for that shit.
Agreed.
So glad I'm not the only one who found this show to be an utter mess in just the first episode. I was so tempted to just stop watching before the halfway point, but I actually stuck it out to the end of the episode to see if it was worth my time. I should've gone with my gut on that.
This show feels like bad candy.
The wrapping looks fantastic and pleasing, but when you unwrap and look at the candy, it feels a little off. Then you dive in and realize how artificial it tastes, making you wonder if this supposed candy was made for human consumption.
That was nice. The music is making this anime, really liked how they showed the concert, really raw emotion.
So this is indeed a love triangle with decent focus on music. Can easily get really stupid with the three but for now, i'm good.
Positive start, though these people really don't like finishing songs do they?
I certainly like the music style in this anime. Seems like it'll be a drama too, which isn't bad if it's handled well.
A much better first episode then how the manga handled the intro to this series, same material just different order.
Alice's weird little remarks are even better in anime form! Eyelashes!
Really looking forward to the rest of this.
Wait is this story, two childhood friends fighting over the same girl, oh this is going to get interesting. As long as a completely new transfer student doesn't show up to lure her away.
Though I'm siding with Yuzu here, Momo dared dis the name of Light Music Club and no one does that. Though at least this one actually plays music and it was pretty good music too.
Despite looking rough, this was way better than I thought it was going to be at first glance and better than Fuuka already. Though the MC was tripping a few of the yandere markers, but I don't think it's that kind of show.
So next week the episode is going to be about cake and tea right?
We do have a light music club with a Mio, so…
I'm here for the songs and I'm not disappointed so far
hayamin shouting in a song like that is awesome
EDIT : there's only one guitar while the song have two guitars lol
A proper shōjo anime. Not just that but it's based off a Hana to Yume manga. Pinch me, I must be dreaming! I don't know how long it's been since I've seen a new shōjo anime air that hits all the tropes of the genre that I love so much. This show is definitely a keeper for me.
Gosh, I LOVED THIS!
The art style is right down my alley, the backround story is decent to good and the music is AWESOME! If the musical quality will be held at that level I might just have found my season favorite. This show makes me so happy right now. A new music anime with good rock music... I've craved for this!
Honestly there are points that I could nitpick about the show. I feel like the show didn't do a good enough job of establishing what happened and at times can come off as unfocused.
...That said I quite enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to more. This show is edgy in all the right ways, and personally I quite like it. The music was awesome, and despite how odd Arisu acted, I get it and I like it. This could be a really great show, I'm not too much for melodrama but if it sticks with the problems the characters have and keeps with that it could be great. I'm looking forward to it at least.
My guess is because it doesn't have any actual music performances in the childhood, so to get people hooked on the music, they switched the episodes around.
That makes logical sense. And those music performances were hooking. I want more of that.
I'll be looking forward to the backstory they got here, seems like it'll be interesting.
It is pretty interesting and it's nice to see how it intwines in future relationships. Also, the manga liked to play with tropes, make you think one thing and then it is something completely different.
So I wouldn't let my guard down : P.
Also, the manga liked to play with tropes, make you think one thing and then it is something completely different.
I thought I couldn't get any more hyped about this show. Appearantly I was wrong. I love it when works play with tropes!
It does : P Though ALSO not in the way you expect.
I had taken note of this one from the art (which i personally love) and understood it had something to do with music, but this was way more than i expected. I liked this a lot. We have our MC who is quite enjoyable, and some fairly colorful cast members. Not to mention the music is great. Ill def be enjoying this one.
Okay i'm interested. Gotta buy in to the characters but the way they threw in an u expected love triangle/square at the last minute was unexpected.
The music was awesome so i'll certainly stick with this.
Haven't enjoyed a musical show of this type since NANA... this gives me some good ol' feels. I think I'll stick around for this one, though I doubt it will ever get as dark.
Momo's from 1-S ? Holy shit how many first years does this school have?
I hope the animation doesn't get worse every week like it did with Orange, I'm have the feeling it will just because it was the first episode and the eyes looked weird at times.
Besides that... yay! musical Shojo, long time without one ( Fuuka doesn't count) already #TeamMomo
Anime that make me remind of
Special A (art style)
Kaichou wa maid Sama (Nino looks like one of them)
Your Lie in April (Momo)
One Punch Man (Yuzu)
Bang Dream (twinkle little star)
Fuuka (love story with music)
Kuzu No Honkai (how twisted this will get?)
And tons more
So you're saying it's another anime series that isn't wildly different from the standard.
Also the plural of anime is anime.
The lalalalalala is causing my ears to bleed... let me get back on that.
OK, we're back to high school soap opera with lots of flashback intertwined from Nino's life, and how she relates to Yuzu. All the while having that signature comedy that breaks model to make a joke out of a serious moment and confrontation. Oh, and the concert was "dope"
Also, a lot of poignant moments here. And just the amount of events: Nino found Yuzu, Yuzu saw Nino, Miou saw Yuzu and Nino, forcing Nino to replace her. And now Nino finds Momo and Momo finds Nino.
Got that? Yeah, I did too, in 1 episode with 2 performances!
Speaking of performances, here's Nino's break out hit!
So yeah. Rating is SOAP!
If you think about it, you lose. And the show does overwhelm, one does not have any breathing room to think.
"dope"
Why would you use such a colour-blinding GIF? Please give a warning at least.
