Several airports serve Detroit, southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio. If you’re search for cheap flights, don’t limit yourself to just one airport. Looking at others in the region, may help lower your costs.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is the busiest airport in the region and serves as a hub for Delta Air Lines and Spirit Airlines. Among the most popular destinations: Atlanta, Orlando, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Tokyo.
Bishop International Airport (FNT), located in Flint, is served by several passenger airlines including Southwest Airlines and Delta/Delta Connection. Popular destinations include Atlanta, Detroit and Chicago.
Capital Region International Airport (LAN), located in Lansing, is served by Allegiant Air, Delta Connection, Sun Country Airlines and United Express. Popular destinations include Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago.
Toledo Express Airport (TOL) is served by Allegiant and American Eagle, and has flights to Chicago, Fort Myers, Orlando and St. Petersburg.
Windsor Airport (YQG) is served by Air Canada, Cameron Air, Porter Airlines, Sunwing Airlines and WestJet and has non-stop service to several Canadian cities, including Toronto.
Florida is always a popular destination for people from the Detroit area, and thanks to competition between airlines and area airports, cheap flights can be found to destinations such as Orlando, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.
If visiting Florida with children, Orlando is likely to be on your must-visit list. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld and other theme parks offer days of amusement for kids and adults alike. Keep in mind that the parks are likely to be most crowded at times that coincide with school vacations. (As a rule of thumb, if the hotel prices are high, the parks are likely to be more crowded.) For an amusement park outside of Orlando, consider visiting Tampa and Busch Gardens.
For many families, sun, sand and salt water are the perfect ingredient for a vacation. Among the favorite beach towns: Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Sanibel-Captiva Islands and Daytona Beach.
