Never been to Nyons? Why this Provencal gem is worth a look!

Sun-kissed Provence is famous the world over, but not everyone has heard of Nyons, hub of the Drôme department. The small, fortified town sits north of Mont Ventoux and is a haven for cyclists, hikers – and foodies.

Why buy a home there? Climate aside – it’s nicknamed ‘Petit Nice’ for its microclimate – it’s also easy to reach from Avignon, Marseille or Nimes airports, or by TGV via Valence from Paris.  It’s charming old town offers some great street markets and restaurants – browse stalls of local lavender honey, tapenade or olives (it’s renowned for its AOC label olive oil), or during the summer you can also mix with the tourists in the popular Saturday crafts and artisan products street market. Wines are from the nearby Rhone Valley the town has lots of useful amenities too. Quality of life is high in this area, but traditional Provencal or stone properties can come with a lower price tag than some of the more well-known Provencal locations, such as the Alpilles or Luberon.
