Dan Fouts Cards, Rookie Card and Autographed Memorabilia Guide

Dan Fouts

Date of Birth: 6/10/1951

Rookie Card Year: 1975

Investment Rating: 5.5

Overview

Dan Fouts football cards and autographed memorabilia remain relatively popular due to the fact that he led one of the most dynamic offensives in the NFL during the late 1970s and early '80s. His San Diego Chargers were a force to be reckoned with. However, an awful defense derailed the team from having any real post-season success and keeping Fouts out of the hobby's elite.

Fout's rookie card can be found in the 1975 Topps Football set. Gem Mint examples of the card can sell for four figures while NM or better condition raw copies can be purchased for less than $40. Fouts flew under the radar of most fans and collectors at the time. He was drafted in the third round out of the University of Oregon, which was not as notable of  a football school as it is today. Fouts quickly garnered mainstream attention after leading the league in passing four times. He would be named to the Pro Bowl team six times, earning an NFL MVP award and eventually be inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

Dan Fouts' first certified autograph card is in 1992 Pro Line Portraits. His first memorabilia cards can be found in 2000 Donruss Elite and 2000 Leaf Certified. His Donruss Elite Throwback Threads Autograph is his most popular early autographed memorabilia card and is limited to just 50 serial-numbered copies.

Dan Fouts went on to have a successful broadcasting career, which kept him in the local spotlight. A fan favorite, his autographed memorabilia is still very popular. He occasionally signs at organized autograph signing events and is a willing in-person signer. Footballs and mini-helmets are the items he is most frequently asked to sign and can be found relatively easily and at an affordable price.
