What are the important Naruto episodes?

So my friend really wants to get into Naruto but he refuses to watch every single episode and (having seen every episode myself) I was wondering which ones are purely pertinent to the plot? Specifically, which seasons are the fillers?

You are a freaking god-send. Thank you so much

I finished rewatching Naruto today, will be rewatching Shippuuden some time around now, and the only filler I watched was the one about Kakashi's mask. This man is right.

thanks but all the credit goes to this site: http://www.narutohq.com/naruto-shippuden-fillers.php

158-175 is the best par of the series (excluding the 2 filler episodes). watch the shit out of those OP.

Unless of course you're atheist, in which case, I am glad that intelligent people like you exist.

but seriously, if he doesn't watch "whats behind kakashis mask filler" he will be missing out on the most important naruto episode in the series

edit: make sure he reads the manga after he's done with the Anime

u/Wahzuhbee avatar

Will do, thanks again!

No lie, I haven't seen more than 10 episodes of the anime (up to date on the manga though) and I've actually seen the episode about what's behind kakashi's mask. What's so special about it though, I watched it a while ago and didn't notice anything special but your comment is really bugging me haha.

u/ipeeoncats avatar

It is special because it is the only good filler episode.

I read this without seeing the previous comment you made. I was all ಠ_ಠ but everything turned out better than expected. :)

I'll just add though... A friend once bribed me into watching the first ep of Naruto, in an attempt to make me hooked on the show. It didn't do anything for me.

However, playing the first Naruto game for PS3 did get me into it. Yes, I know that's backwards. But if you have a PS3 or 360, download the demo to one of the 3 games and play that with him. It's awesome.

Surprisingly, getting him hooked wasn't very hard. He watched the first 5 because he couldn't sleep and after a week he's on episode 48 :D

Only 48 episodes? ಠ_ಠ That's less than 8 per day. He can do better!

3 for PS3 and 2 for 360. Storm 1 is only on PS3, as should the rest of the series be.

Are these the ones to watch or avoid?

I thank you for your information, me and my girlfriend were able to clear through all the important episodes and drop all the meaningless ones in a little under a month.

Just read the comics.

Waaaaaaaay faster (I did it over a long weekend with no problems) and you get the full story. Later you can go back and watch the fight scenes and crap you liked.

The quickest way to get into Naruto and catch up is to read the manga. It might not have the "action" of animation, but it avoids all filler.

As far as pertinent episodes go, it's everything outside of the episodes listed here.

I'd recommend that he:

  • Watch the pilot episode (and maybe the next few) to get a feel for the series.

  • Read the manga to catch up.

  • Catch some of the outstanding episodes and epic battles along the way, while avoiding those with filler, poor animation, and overall lack of plot development.
