Notes
As with There's a Riot Goin' On, Stone held on to the Fresh masters well beyond the record's official release, constantly remixing and re-recording the tracks. As a result, alternate and significantly different versions of at least ten songs from the album are known to exist. In 1991, Sony Music, by then owner of the Epic catalog, accidentally issued a sequencing of Fresh on CD in the United States featuring alternate takes of every song except "In Time", which remained unchanged. Sony allowed the alternate version to remain in stores to be bought up by fans and then later issued the standard 1973 version of the album. However, the mix-up sparked debate among fans over which release was superior. When Sony BMG reissued Fresh in CD and digital download formats for Sly & the Family Stone's 40th anniversary, five alternate mixes were included as bonus tracks. These tracks are extremely similar, if not identical, to the alternate, accidental 1991 release. The alternate version is known to be very accessible in Japan, while it is very scarce in the U.S. (SOURCE; WIKIPEDIA)

- Truly an excellent sounding record. I also have a decent original RL pressing, which I already thought sounded great. And they are not too far apart. I think this Kevin Gray pressing has a bit more clarity and detail as well as an extended low-end, but the RL focuses more on the mids so it sounds a tad warmer while also being very dynamic. If you have a clean OG I don't know if you would need to seek this out, but I do prefer the Kevin Gray pressing slightly as it feels more open. Highly recommended!

"Original Mix" is a confusing and vague term when referring to this album. Depending on your point of view, the mix generally released in 1973 could be the "original mix," or the earlier pre-release mix sent out to reviewers, re-released by accident in the early 1990's, could be considered the "original mix". (Though usually that's called the "alt mix".) Unfortunately, people usually consider whichever mix they heard first to be the "original mix."
"contrary to more recent re-releases....". You cannot make a blanket statement about the more recent releases. The releases from 1991 forward aren't all the same.
I'm reading conflicting claims across the internet regarding what is contained on the 1987 Edsel release(s).
Can anyone who has physical copies of the Edsel CD and/or LP confirm the running times of "Let Me Have It All" and "Babies Making Babies"? By playing the CDs, vs reading the cover, etc? Thank you. - My 1973 NL- pressing comes in a gatefold sleeve and a cardboard inner with lyrics. Is this reproduced here as well?
- Stunning reissue of this hypnotic funk album on orange vinyl. This has the same KPG@CA as the 2017 red vinyl repress, and Kevin Gray has worked his magic again here. There's more clarity to the bass and drums, even if the whole thing still has a bit of a murky sound. There's a real bite to the punchy horn riffs, the low end sounds rich and organic. This is is one of those rare masterpieces that seems to get better with every listen, and it's impossible to choose a favorite song because it changes all the time. Did I mention how hypnotic the grooves are? Five funky stars and a happy face.
- Absolutely gorgeous sounding, but I keep catching myself glancing with delight at the safety orange vinyl as it lay on the turntable. The combination of visual and musical elements makes my spirit rise with happiness.
- Excellent sounding quality 👌 👏 Top notch remaster. If you are on the fence about purchasing do yourself a favor and grab it up
- Even a shagged out old copy is worth owning. Mine has pops galore, but they can't hide one of Sly + Family's finest. Legend has it that Miles Davis played "In Time" for his band over and over for an hour. Every groove is slippery. No riff or beat repeats itself in exactly the same way twice, which is really enticing and forces you to listen and move in new ways (50 years on even).

It doesn’t say it in the description, but mine is a gatefold. Sounds good!
