Florence Pugh Makes a Splash at 2024 Oscars with Wet-Look Dress and '90s Madonna-Inspired Hair

Florence Pugh is a pro when it comes to choosing statement-making gowns and her look at the 2024 Academy Awards red carpet is no exception.

The Oppenheimer actress arrived in a silver Del Core dress featuring a sculpted sheer bodice with delicate beading, reminiscent of water droplets. The plunging dress pooled at her feet before trailing out behind her in a short train.

E! News cohost Zanna Roberts Rassi confirmed the water droplets theory on Instagram, writing that the design is specifically supposed to mimic droplets on a leaf.

Pugh, who was styled by Rebecca Corbin Murray, accessorized with Bulgari jewels and Piferi platform heels and wore her hair swept to one side.

Hairstylist Adir Abergel, who used Virtue products to style Pugh's locks, drew inspiration from a "modern-day bombshell hairstyle with a carefree lived-in glamorous vibe," according to a press release. The hairstyle is meant to celebrate Oppenheimer's 13 Oscar nominations, as well as nod to Madonna's 1990s era. 

Pugh, 28, joined her fellow "Oppenhomies" at the award show, where their film is nominated for a whopping 13 awards. Included among the nominations are Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. and Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt.

So far, the film has dominated the 2024 awards season, winning several awards at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and SAG Awards.

Pugh's Oscars look is the latest sartorial hit for the star. At the BAFTAs last month, she rocked a custom Harris Reed look featuring a silver corset layered over a black skirt, plus a dramatic cape and train. Pugh accessorized with a dazzling Boucheron necklace.

Reed, who designed the gown, shared his excitement over creating a piece for Pugh on Instagram, "There are few people in this world that I am more gagged to dress and respect more then the iconic Florence. Every time I get to sew my little heart out and make a fashion moment with you, it always feels like the first. I love you and thank you for always trusting me to create for you."

For the afterparty, she changed into a white lace-paneled minidress with an asymmetrical hemline, which she paired with a feathery coat and a pair of Gianvito Rossi Portofino sandals.

The Dune: Part Two star wore her hair slicked back with a retro wave and rocked silver eye shadow and a glossy lip. Pugh amped up her party look with diamond star-shaped earrings by Maria Tash and a silver septum ring. 

In the midst of awards season, Pugh has also been out promoting Dune: Part Two. At the London premiere of the sci-fi movie in February, she wore a custom Valentino brown sequin, hooded gown paired with Aquazzura sandals. 

Following the red carpet, Pugh wrote on Instagram, "My goodness. I know I’m not great and getting these moments out straight away but it’s always because I’m genuinely allowing it to soak in and I spend the most of the next day just reminiscing about how beautiful and utterly barmy these moments in life are."

The 96th Oscars will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 10, at 7 p.m. ET.
