The teenage son of a rural preacher becomes a huge Elvis-like rock 'n' roll star, but he has trouble adjusting to fame and success.
The title and the poster give the impression that this is going to be some sort of precursor to those fluffy pieces of cinematic candy starring teen sensations that were so prevalent in the 60's. However it turned out to be a rather bitter drama of opportunism, the dangers and obligations of fame and a young man's conflict as he's pulled in opposite directions by disparate forces. Solidly acted.
One disturbing item though, Nick Adams's character, a young man taken on by Tommy Sands as a gofer, seems to be a borderline psychotic which no one appears to realize but the way he's presented he's one step away from obsessed lunatic.
