Any way to reset a modem without physical access?

Okay folks, I have an issue with my apartment complex internet. I keep getting outages and dns lookup failures. Unfortunately I don't have physical access to the modem. My complex uses verizon fios. There is nobody in the complex office until Monday to fix it.

Long story short I'm wondering if there is a way to remotely reboot a modem I don't have physical access to. If, however, that's not the actual problem please let me know.

Edit: It is out for the whole building and its not my router.

Yes, depending on the model of router, generally there is a "restart" or "reboot" option in the Admin section (for consumer routers and on Tomato/DDWRT).

The problem is: you need to access the firmware setup page.

Do you know what kind of router, make and model?

I am sure they did not give you password, but if you know make and model, there is a chance it is still default: admin/admin.....

What happens when you try to access the usual gateway addresses like 192.168.1.1 or xxxxxx.1.254?

Those get me into my router. Getting there isn't a problem, getting into the modem is.

Ah--FIOS Modem....but there has to be a router in the chain between you and the FIOS modem, or, a switch.

Switches don't every go down as far as I know--I have never seen that.

So: rebooting the modem: like I said, the circuit breaker....or, breaking and entering!

Lots of youtube videos on how to pick locks....and yeah, tacky, I know.

Obviously complex does not have an on site manager?

There must be someone on call for emergencies. Granted, no one has stopped breathing, but come on--have you ever seen Reddit Withdrawal? Maybe there is someone you can call to come in, if not tonight, tomorrow....

Non-emergencies are Monday through friday only. And, sadly, reddit withdrawal isn't an emergency.

Counsel, do you recall, earlier today or on a day like today that is so like today that it must be today saying:

It is out for the whole building and its not my router.

But when given the magic IP address 192.168.1.1 you THEN claim

**Those get me into my router. **

Your router. The router you don't have? "It's not my router". Oh of course it isn't. This router, this worthless pile of plastic and silicon, uncaring, unworthy, unrouting.

Tonight. What of the children? Netflix? Their Facebook friends, ignored, unfriended, forever lost?

The truth?

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

"Isn't my router" was meant that my router isn't the cause of the issue. Basically the system in the complex works like this: plug internet cable into router, plug router into power source, use internet.

OK this is terrible but:

Are the circuit breaker panels accessible to you?

If so: circuit breaker panel nearest where this locked up router is: power it down for a couple of minutes.

While you are doing that: turn off your PC and unplug it (really), and don't restart it until the FIOS router has had a few minutes to restart/boot/configure itself and get ready to pass out IP addresses like candy.

Note: I am hereby not responsible for any collateral damage i.e. computers in that office being improperly shut down, clocks, phones, anything else powered or unpowered, seen or unseen that may or may not depend or not depend on power to that room or office. Forever and in perpetuity.

I fucking hate lawyers......just sayin.

Not gunna cut the power heh. Mainly because I'm studying to be a lawyer :p
