      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

One of the better Planet of the Apes sequels, Escape is more character-driven than the previous films, and more touching as a result.

Michael McNay Guardian It is efficiently directed by Don Taylor and sanely scripted by Paul Dehn. Jun 8, 2020 Full Review Margaret Hinxman Daily Telegraph (UK) it isn't really up to standard. Jun 8, 2020 Full Review Penelope Gilliatt New Yorker Rather splendid, rather encouraging. Mar 19, 2019 Full Review Dilys Powell Sunday Times (UK) The film is likeable as well as amusing; it even has a note of pathos, something alien from its predecessors. Mar 17, 2020 Full Review Tony Mastroianni Cleveland Press Escape looks more like a made-for television movie than anything else. The first half, in fact, might pass for a situation comedy in which people are amused at apes who act like humans. Jan 18, 2019 Full Review Zaki Hasan Zaki's Corner ...a story that retains its cynical, hard-edged hallmarks while also packing in a considerable amount of pathos. David C La historia está entretenida Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/27/24 Full Review Ian W Conceptually it may seem like they were stretching the series a bit too thin, and that very well could’ve been the case, but this was actually a very enjoyable movie. Out of all the original movies this is by far the most character driven, it’s well acted and the plot is to be taken seriously. Of course, it lacks the “classic“ plan of the apes feel, but Im glad it exists Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Robson C Uma nave espacial americana chega ao nosso planeta. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Joshua H This was a really nice follow and new story for the series that I thought was effective after a weird and baffling sequel this was much simpler and effective. Seeing the fate of these ape characters that we've grown to care about was sad to see. So overall it was much better and interesting watch that did leave us as an audience to question right & wrong with what takes place. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Pedro Henrique C This film is crazy complete with the strange script, some questions have no explanation Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Alec B Flipping the plot of the original around works better than I anticipated, that said it does often feel like this was done for budgetary reasons rather than a way to find a fresh direction for the franchise. Ultimately this would have been a better ending for the series than the two movies that followed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
