Why is CSK bowler Deepak Chahar ruled out of the rest of the IPL 2024 season?
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) speedster Deepak Chahar is likely to be ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season after picking up an injury during their recent match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium earlier this week.

"Deepak's injury is not looking good. I will not say he is ruled out of the season but doubtful. He has stayed back in Chennai. We're waiting for a report from the medical team," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan remarked.

Similar views were echoed by head coach Stephen Fleming in the aftermath of th edefeat too, adding, "Deepak Chahar doesn't look good. (The) initial feeling wasn't great, so I'm hoping for a more positive report when the physio and doc have a look."

Chahar has had a disappointing time playing for CSK in IPL 2024. Before IPL 2022, he was secured for a whopping sum of 14 crore by the five-time champions.

The pacer played eight games this season, picking only five wickets. He has conceded runs at 8.60 per over, at a bowling average and strike rate of 40.40 and and 28.80 respectively. His primary responsibility is to pick wickets in the powerplay, but there was a lack of bite visible in his bowling and that meant that CSK leaked several runs in the first six overs.

Overall, Chahar has notched 77 dismissals in 81 matches, at an economy rate of 7.98 and bowling strike rate of 21.68. He has picked two four wicket-hauls in his IPL career, winning three championships in 2018, 2021, and 2023 respectively under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in CSK.

His best-ever IPL campaign came in 2019, when Chahar took 22 wickets in 17 matches in 2019 at an economy of 7.47. CSK had finished as the runners-up of the competition, losing the final by merely one run against Mumbai Indians (MI).
