Biografía

  • Bring Me the Horizon have established themselves as one of the most enduring metalcore groups to come out of Sheffield, UK with their brooding mix of deathcore rock and dabbling in other styles such as electronica and classical.

The band formed in 2004 when lead singer and principal songwriter Oliver Sykes was only 16 some of the group’s members were even younger. The average age of the band during their formation was 15. Apart from Sykes the rest of the band included guitarists Lee Malia and Curtis Ward, bassist Matt Kean, and drummer Matt Nicholls. The line up has not changed much since. “I Killed the Prom Queen” guitarist Jona Weinhofen replaced Curtis Ward in 2009, but eventually left in 2013 and keyboardist Jordan Fish completed the current line up in 2012.

Despite the groups young age the members of the band were already musically experienced. Lee Malia who had a keen interest in melodic death metal was in a Metallica tribute band prior to joining Bring Me the Horizon and Matt Kean had been in several local bands before entering the group. All the members were rooted in metal and hard rock, but it was Matt Nicholls and Oliver Sykes who really pushed the band in the hardcore punk and death metal direction. Before they formed Bring Me the Horizon Nicholls and Sykes would frequent American hardcore shows featuring such bands as southern metalcore act Norma Jean and New York’s Skycamefalling.

Oliver Skyes also wrote and recorded material before forming Bring Me the Horizon. Skyes spent a good portion of his childhood between Adelaide and Perth, but moved back to the UK when he was eight. Skyes was enrolled at the same school as Arctic Monkeys band members Alex Turner, Andy Nicholson and Matt Helders, though he was a year below them. During his attendance their in 2003 Sykes put together a CD compilation under the name Quakebeat. He also found interest in rap and formed a hip-hop group called “Womb 2 Da Tomb” with his brother and now fellow bandmate Nicholls. Sykes went on to pursue his true passion, forming the metal group “Purple Curto” with his school mate. While attending a concert of one of his favorite bands Funeral for a Friend he was granted the incredible opportunity to sing one of their songs on stage. Sykes recalls this as the best day of his life and just a little after this experience he formed Bring Me the Horizon.

The group released its first EP “This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For” on 2 October 2004 and was signed to UK label Thirty Days of Night Records for a four album record deal. The album was reissued in 2005 and made all the way to #41 on the UK album charts. The band went on to release their 2006 debut album Count Your Blessings. Though the album received mixed reaction from the general public and critics, the band was able to gain some praiseworthy traction, being endowed at the 2006 Kerrang! Awards ceremony as being the Best British Newcomers and opening up for The Red Chord on their UK dates. Bring Me the Horizon saw themselves touring more and more, though they received many of their early gigs through scheming against unassuming concert promoters.

The early iteration of Bring Me the Horizon was rough and unruly. The band would constantly consume alcohol and lose focus in their recording sessions. Their reputation seemed to exceed them on several accounts. When opening for Kill Switch Engaged on a European tour they were met by disgruntled fans who threw bottles at them before they even started playing and during the recording of their second album “Suicide Season” producer Fredrik Nordstrom was often absent from the sessions because of his negative premonitions of the band. However the group showed incredible potential with their sophomore release and delved into a much more focused sound. This release is attributed with introducing several varying stylistic changes opting for a more straightforward metalcore sound and incorporating elements of drum and bass, dubstep and industrial music.

The band continued to experiment with a more pop oriented sound for their preceding records and made a major breakthrough with their third LP “There Is a Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It A Secret”. This album appeared number 1 on the Australian Albums Chart, Number 13 on the UK Rock Chart and number 17 on the Billboard 200 in the US. The band left Epitaph records and put out their fourth album “Sempiternal” on RCA in 2013. This album also did exceptionally well on the UK, US and Australia album charts and saw the band playing alongside notable acts such as Rise Against and Bullet for My Valentine.

  • Bring Me The Horizon

"hello, we're basement from Ipswich" the first words that echoed around a mostly empty. O2 arena. Then straight in to my favourite track by the band "whole" the vast majority of ticket holders were either still in the bars or on their way to the venue and missed this quiet brilliant set by the Suffolk lads it is their loss they chose to ignore the chance of hearing this sonic assault to the eardrum, a superb way to kick off the night.

The venue started to fill for the arrival of Don broco, entering the stage dressed as cowboys complete with pantomime horse, I'm sorry I just don't get their popularity I find them quite boring, to me they are far too radio friendly and indie. a sort of bad Franz ferdinand (who are bad enough) tribute act.

Up next were Enter shikari I couldn't believe my luck when it was announced shikari were doing this one off support spot on the tour, they are my favourite band and have been since I first saw them around 12 years ago, they hypnotised the now fully packed o2 with their. Visuals projected on their large screen, the mosh pit was frantic with every musical note, rou danced manically using every avaliable Inch of the arenas extended stage, the lads really were in top form, I didn't think they'd ever top their own headlining performance at alley palley from February but this came very close. They could easily headline here at the o2, but I would not want them to, I'll go in to the reasoning soon.

BMTH that death core band from Sheffield that most people hated a few years ago suddenly find themselves on to the stage in one of Europe's biggest music venues, the back of the stage is one huge video screen "cracking" with the massive crash of each drum beat as the band ensemble on stage. I've seen this band grow from a screaming noise(I loved this version of bring me) to the symphonic beauty of can you feel my heart(this song is so perfect for me I have the lyrics inked into my skin) to this mega band status of that's the spirit some of which namely 'throne'

I can in my vivid imagination see them standing in front of a curtain and saying "tonight Matthew we are going to be Linkin park"

The demand for circle pits smashing the persons near you faces and crouching down at certain times during the night could not be fully carried out because(and this is what I was referring to earlier) the o2s security /safety officers pushing people in from the sides allowing a gap surround ing the standing area but causing severe cramping and crushing on the out skirts of the pit(I as a 50 year old with dodgy knees had completely wiped my self out for shikari so wanted to stay on the outsides for bmth) I really thought the idea of arena safety officials were to create a safe environment. But here their idea seems to be pushing people about and so creating something akin to police kettling a protest March its very dangerous as I witnessed many light weight kids toppling over during these actions if it wasn't for the humour and understanding of a young lady standing by me I could of quiet easily got a slap and been accused of Sexual assault as one of these pushes forwards left me face first in her cleavage.

Scores on the doors for the night. Basement 8/10 Don broco 1/10(they get the point for looking like woody from toy story. Enter shikari 100/10 bmth 10/10 o2 staff minus 1000000/10

  • Of course it was great. The most remarkable event of the year.

  • On 28/11/15 I went to see BMTH, supported by Neck deep and Pvrs. Pvris were a good warm up and got the crowd pumped up, but could have interacted with the crowd more. Still, although it wasn't really their scene, they put on an enjoyable show. Neck deep were really awesome! I've never listened to them before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but they certainly didn't disappoint. They may not have been the heaviest, but they definitely got the crowd hyped up and there were plenty of mosh pits. And then came the band we all came to see - Bring me the horizon. The crowd were so hyped up that the mosh pits had already assembled ten minutes before they came on. They played all of their best songs, not just ones from their newest album like many bands do; Oli really interacted with the crowd (which converged to form one massive mosh pit!) and their light show was really unique. All in all, an absolutely awesome concert, possibly the best I've been to, and definitely worth my £25.

The only things that could have made that evening any better were things that I definitely recommend if you're considering seeing them.

    1) The crowds for BMTH are notoriously INSANE, so be prepared to get bruised, tie back long hair and don't wear too many clothes or too much jewellery. Makeup too will get really messed up, so go easy.

    2) Don't burn yourself out in mosh pits before the main band. I did this, and really wish that I hadn't because it meant that I was too tired to fully enjoy the set by the end.

    3) Drink LOTS of water throughout. Top up right before the main band, because you won't want to (or be able to) get out of the pit in order to drink if you feel dizzy. I would also say that energy drinks might be a good idea, just to keep you going throughout the entire set (believe me, by the last song nobody near me could lift their arms any more!).

Now, go buy your tickets for Bring Me, and enjoy the show - I guarantee it'll be awesome!

  • Poor performance.

A drum-synth computer is doing half of the work. Then there are 2 guitar men just standing there and a dude behind the synth-half drum thing hitting it when ever he feels a vibe coming. I even doubt if it was connected.

The singer mostly out of tone, not reaching 75% of the CD-power and just hopping around like a bunny.

Luckely there was a crowd who wanted to have some fun and a lot of moshing. Not even very well orchestraded by the singer, but 10/10 points for the floor xrowd for giving us something to watch at :-)

Yeah OK, the songs were more or less OK but totally brought without inspiration.

Just one after the other. I had the feeling that there was a group standing there with the thought "OK, we have 90 min, lets sing some songs and we are out of here...."

70% of the crowd were girls in between 15y-25y. Yeah most of them went home without a voice but ....I have been on concerts for the last 27y and this is not want i had been driving to BXL's for. Lucky it was only 28 euro. Now i know why.

But guys, yeah i really still love your music, its good! But do some homework next time, prepare a good show, pay your light engineer a little more because i saw the same light show 4x times during this concert.

Bring some adjusted versions, show you can handle 90 min on a stage, kick ass like on the CD, ...

I can wait another year because next two shows 2016 i will stay home.

    Concert 5/10

  • Ah, Bring Me...

  • The show last night was beyond words.. Whenever BMTH comes to town here in Denver they always bring their A game with them!! I highly recommend seeing this band if they ever are in your state because they know how to put on a hell of a show!!! My favorite part of the show had to be when they ended up playing an encore as the crowd was chanting "we will never sleep cause sleepings for the weak no we will never rest until we are all f***ing dead" I don't think they could let a crowd down that was that energetic and responsive torwds the band, surely the band didn't dissapoint us at all and came back out from back stage to win all our hearts and finished the show off with thrones. BMTH also had suprised everyone in the audience with giant confetti flying in the air everywhere as the song climaxed to the final chorus. What a show for the books and i had no idea that so many people would attend the show lastnight. This was my second time seeing them play live, I didn't really care much for the opening bands thou.. I miss the days when parkway drive would open up for them back at the summit music hall.

  • Bästa konserten jag har varit på, första förbandet var inget vidare (basement) och verkar som att dom flesta tyckte likadant. While she sleeps fick dock igång publiken på ett helt annat sätt.

  • this show was super super good! i didn’t have GA and bought practically the last row of seats, but one of security guards gave me and my girlfriend tickets for seats that were 19 rows closer, the energy was amazing and everyone was super nice! i could see so much from the new seats and was super happy!!! the pits were cool, a little sad more towards the end, but funny to watch people were narato running through them and were acting like airplanes running through them and whenever someone fell the other people picked them right up and they kept going, really fun to watch!!!!! oli came into the crown during drown and not just through the floor but through the stands too and i was super close to him!!!!! plus the person who came up on stage to sing antivist knew all the lyrics and had super good energy and was ready to keep the crowd hyped and people were still dancing and moshing while he was singing!

  • Bring me the horizon has been one of my favorite bands since I first discovered the hardcore genre. The have just inspired so many musicians and helped so many of their fans feel welcomed into a sort if extended family. Their songs always have some type of memorable section wether it be a chant, breakdown or just some incredible line. Oliver Sykes is an amazing front man and vocalist, a very original songwriter, and just an incredibly nice person. When I got to see them the first time, I was just in perfect nostalgia. They played all their hits and it was amazing how they filled up this huge stage all by themselves and their sound. The second time was no exception. Oliver had the whole crowd going wild with their explosive sound and energetic riffs. Bring me the horizon is definitely one of the best live bands I've ever seen! Can't wait to see them a third time in October.

  • This show ranks among the most disappointing of my life.

That's not to say that the music itself was anything less than phenomenal, but there were so many on-stage distractions that they actually took away from the performance.

THEY HAD BACKUP DANCERS, Y'ALL!!!! And, I'm not taking Destiny's Child caliber dancers. Ohh no. Imagine, if you would, please a forth-grade single-day cheer camp. Yep :-/ That's not an exaggeration. The dancers were horrific to the point of insulting.

Should I be able to stop there, it might have been redeemable.

    Sadly, I cannot.

The stage is backed by video monitors, and upon said screens plays this stream-of-consciousness screensaver. It felt rather like those daydreams one wakes from with a start.

    They. Were. Awful.

In order to enjoy the music, I had to close my eyes, because there was so much distracting from it.

    VERY DISAPPOINTING.
