In Marseilles (France), skilled pizza delivery boy Daniel who drives a scooter finally has his dreams come true. He gets a taxi license. I wanted something entertaining and fun after a terrible day - and this fit the bill perfectly! Taxi is a French action comedy. What it lacks in coherency it more than makes up for a constant slew of overblown action scenes, pounding music, wisecracks and more. The unlikely plot focuses on a newly qualified taxi driver who finds himself helping out the police as they try to catch a gang of German bank robbers. The film is very fast paced - it barely settles for a second and that's a good thing because the entire plot, characters, logic and everything else is completely ludicrous. You're just not used to French cinema pumping out completely daft action films like this - or at least you weren't back in the late 1990s when this was released. This is one of the earlier flat-out French action films and one whose style is still being emulated in Gallic actioners to this day.
Plot logic and continuity are thrown out of the window in exchange for some pretty good (if not all that exhilarating, compared to some other films, including in its sequels) car chases and long lingering shots of Emma Sjoberg and Marion Cotillard's legs and breasts. That was probably enough for some people, and shamelessly gratuitous.

Buddy cop dynamics and late-analog era action spectacle collide in this French-language film from the Luc Besson stable, which should let you know right away whether or not you're the audience for "Taxi." You can tell this thing was written and produced by a sex pest since the dialogue is commenting on actresses' cleavage when the camera isn't lingering on it (a very thankless role for a 23 year-old Marion Cotillard), but it's difficult to discount the Euro cool of a tricked out taxi speeding through the streets of Marseille to a hip-hop beat. I am not surprised they made five sequels to this thing; I'm ready to watch them all.
Entertaining action / comedy from Gérard Pirès. Marseille delivery driver 'Daniel' secures a taxi license. After flouting traffic laws, bumbling police inspector 'Émilien' makes a deal with Daniel to help him catch a gang of German robbers. The first film of the popular series. Boasting solid and charismatic performances from Naceri and Diefenthal, who share a great chemistry. A nice and simple concept. Featuring some well-staged and neatly edited action / chase sequences, daft illogicalities, and a breezy soundtrack. The momentum regularly dips, and the humour is generally hit or miss. A fun ride nevertheless.

Émilien kicking down full on doors when he’s 5’7 is way funnier than intended. This was a blast.
Viewed in "Import LaserDisc recorded to VHS" style since finding the German DVD with no English options at Goodwill. Impressive action sequences, stunt driving, and Samy Naceri's volatile charisma couched with sunny cinematography (before scope framing became overused). Story simple and characters broad enough to still be entertaining. Obviously see Fast and the Furious (2001) snatching at least a little inspiration. Reminiscent in itself of an Italian poliziottesco. Rating withheld since no subtitles for its stretches of French dialogue. Watched via BMG Video's DVD.

Эт я после трёх Форсажей решил проверить ещё одно детско-подростковое воспоминание. И слава кинобогам, Такси хорошо не только в воспоминаниях. Отличный баланс во всём, отсутствие натужного пафоса в отличие от того же Форсажа.
Марион Котийяр сначала снимается в ахуе у ОТЦА, а потом идет в плагиатную помойку Бездорфера Днолана, мда.
