As friends and family mourn a teen killed in a crash on the city's west side, Columbus police are searching for the young men who ran from the scene moments after it happened.

Fourteen-year-old Haleigh Abshire was killed when an SUV and a car collided and sparked a fire near the intersection of West Mound Street and Highland Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

A neighbor told ABC 6 she saw three young boys run and jump a fence in her backyard immediately following the crash. The crash report also mentions several people running away from the scene.

As police try to track them down, ABC 6 is trying to determine whether both vehicles involved in the crash were stolen.

"Whoever is in the SUV, their life has forever been changed," one neighbor said. "I don't think these young men have any idea what they've done."

Abshire was found dead in the SUV. Her friends gathered for a vigil Tuesday night near where the crash happened.

"She can't live anymore, she can't get married, she can't see to have kids," Vanessa Cantrell said. "I can't see what she's going to grow up and look like."

Debris from the wreck hit someone standing nearby; that person was taken to a hospital and is recovering.

A police source told ABC 6 that the car is believed to have been stolen from West High School not long before the crash.
