About
The National WWII Museum is the top-rated tourist destination in New Orleans and #2 in the U.S., and an unforgettable way to experience World War II—from industrial efforts on the home front to the combat experience of the American servicemember abroad. Offering a compelling blend of sweeping narrative and poignant personal detail, the Museum features immersive exhibits, multimedia experiences, and an expansive collection of artifacts and first-person oral histories to take visitors inside the story of the war: why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today. Beyond the galleries, the Museum offers unique access to experiential history, including an opportunity to tour and ride on an authentically restored PT-boat, tours behind the scenes to handle artifacts alongside Museum curators, and an impressive collection of restored and working macro-artifacts to discover. Open early through 1/2/18, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Neighborhood: Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.

    Amazing
Several folks had told us to visit and Oh Boy were they right! This is the best WW2 museum I've been to. My husband liked the airplane display best - and I thought the Europe campaign was VERY well done. I don't think I expected to learn so much! I only wish we had had the time to visit the Japan exhibit... Next Time!

    Must see!
Our family of 6 really enjoyed our time at the museum. It is very well done! We added the movie to our ticket, and it was fantastic, highly recommend doing that! Make sure you see all the parts of the museum as it can be a little confusing where to go next. We also ate lunch at the restaurant and the chicken sandwich was delicious. The shrimp and grits were a little small in portion. Great day at the museum.

    Powerful Experience!
This is an extremely well-designed museum with beautiful displays and multimedia experiences. Make sure to give yourself enough time to thoroughly enjoy this massive museum. You can spend an entire day if you take your time, but at least allow for a few hours.

Excellent Museum to learn some important history
This museum was not on our original list of things to visit in New Orleans, but we ended up going there when we had an afternoon free. I am so glad we did! The presentation is really well done with many films and some rooms designed to make you feel you were actually there (e.g. a jungle setting). We only allocated 2.5 hours to this museum, we should have done more. There was a one hour movie, narrated by Tom Hanks, which we did not have time to see. I will definitely be back to visit if I come to New Orleans again.

    Marvelous Museum!
We had not been to New Orleans in ten years when we last visited this remarkable museum…I still needed tissues to get through the exhibits. This history lesson has evolved into even a better experience than we remembered. We spent five hours here and didn’t see it all. Helpful volunteers, hands on exhibits, great video presentations, temporary Disney exhibit, nice gift shops and restaurants…really a remarkable place of learning and remembering.

As a history and museum buff, definitely a must-see!
We've toured the entire 48 lower states over the last 15 years and seen many museums, including the collections at the Smithsonian. My wife commented that this museum experience was by far her favorite, right up there with the Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington. She liked the one-stop-shop experience of all of WW II being right here in one place, and we felt that there was a good balance of perspectives shown. We didn't partake of the evening lights show, the submarine experience, or the additional movie, but did hit everything else in the museum. Including lunch within the museum at the American Sector venue, and a little bit of shopping, we literally spent the entire day there from the time they opened until the closing bell. We missed this attraction on our first trip to New Orleans in 2019, and glad we made it back and were able to spend a whole day here just in the museum this time.

    Don't miss this!
I'm so glad we put this on our agenda during our New Orleans visit. There are so many fascinating stories and reminders of the incredible challenges the troops encountered during the war. We only had half a day to tour the museum, and we were able to get through most of the exhibits. There is a lot of walking and standing involved, but there area some benches scattered around.

    Massive Museum!
This museum is massive!! We allowed ourselves 4 hours to get through this museum and it wasn't long enough! This was one of the best museums I have ever visited. The information and exhibits were fascinating and extensive. The only suggestion I have, is that I would have liked to see an area devoted solely to the Holocaust.

    Worth the high rating
This is a very very well put together museum. The text is easy to read and well positioned. There enough detail but without being over whelmed. The museum has a good sense of background theatre to the different locations of the war. We didn’t read everything but spent 6 hours here - much more than the suggested 3. We did this over 2 days, paying a further $12 each for the 2nd day ticket ( you need evidence of day 1 ticket). I recommend you start early if you hope to do in 1 day.

    So much to learn
A great museum. I normally go through museums quickly and went in expecting to spend 30-60 mins, ended up three hours. They walk you through the pacific and European campaigns and you get a great understanding of how both campaigns evolved, what it was like and how the allies won (spoiler alert). It’s light on the actual artifacts (not a ton of planes, guns, etc), it’s more about the story telling and it works well. Great way to spend a few hours, you’ll come out with a much better understanding of the war.

Definitely one of the informative and fun interactive museums we have visited. This is definitely an all day experience with the European and Pacific theaters being separate. The restaurant had very good food and service was prompt with reasonable prices.

This is an amazing museum. It gives a good chronological history of America's involvement in WW2. The stories of the men involved make it much more personal. You do get a sense of how terrible the war was and what an impact it had on Americans at home. I would have given 5 stars if there was a little more acknowledgement to our other allies who fought with us. But, this is America's Museum of the war.

This is a wonderful daytime diversion. The museum is huge and full of info on all things WW2. It has artifacts, movies, interactive kiosks, realistic “sets”, vehicles, and so much more. There were 4 adults in our group. It took us around 4 hours, and I’m sure we didn’t see everything. Definitely worth a visit if you have the time. If you are driving, park in their parking garage. It’s nice, clean, and inexpensive!

We visited the WWII museum on our last day in New Orleans because we needed to kill a few hours before our flight home. We stayed FIVE hours and could have stayed longer. It is very well laid out and works in a timeline format.
We didnt pay for the extra film option and to be honest we wouldnt have had time. An excellent journey through history through the eyes of the americans

We have wanted to go here since it opened and it didn't disappoint. The exhibits are terrific and very interactive. They put you right there in the action and even America as it was during that time. The staff is made up it seems of mostly volunteers who are there because of their knowledge of the time. They were friendly, helpful and we met several vets of WWII. Both our fathers served but are no longer with us so it was awesome talking to the people who served. The movie costs extra but is well worth it.

This museum is incredible! There is so much to see & do it is almost overwhelming. Make sure you get tickets to the Beyond the Boundaries presentation. It is definitely worth the extra $7. Also make sure you buy tickets for Beyond the Boundaries before you go. They sellout very quickly.

You never stop learning something new at the WWII Museum. The visual and audio displays are great. The combination of material, data and personal accounts gives you a feeling of being there. The dog tag experience adds to that journey. The 4D movie cemented things together. Word of advise to any one going, set aside plenty of time, my wife and I only got to see a fraction of the displays. We will go back again when we return to New Orleans.

If you really love history, allow more time to fully digest all that's here. A couple hours will just be frustrating. So moving and impactful. We even went to the PT 305 tour on Lake Pontchartrain. Fascinating!

One of the best museums I've been to. The exhibits are dramatic, the storytelling in-depth. What's confusing is you start at D-Day and end at VE Day, then restart in Africa and the Pacific. Lots of walking so come rested.

My husband and I are both retired from the Air Force and he loves history. So when we were planning our vacation this was at the top of the must do list. And it was worth it! Make sure you take your time and maybe even make two days of it to really be able to see and hear everything.
