Gilbert, Ariz. - In 2023, 645 people died in Maricopa County due to the heat.
That’s a 52% increase in heat-related deaths from 2022.
More than half of the deaths occurred in the month of July last year and 45% of individuals who succumbed to the heat were experiencing homelessness.
Gilbert is asking for the community's help again this year to support the Heat Relief Network, a regional donation drive that provides hydration and refuge for the Valley's most vulnerable populations during the hot summer months.
