Although she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, pronounced like rolling, her name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply Joanne Rowling. Anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read a book written by a woman, her publishers demanded that she use two initials, rather than her full name. As she had no middle name, she chose K as the second initial of her pen name, from her paternal grandmother Kathleen Ada Bulgen Rowling. She calls herself Jo and has said, "No one ever called me 'Joanne' when I was young, unless they were angry." Following her marriage, she has sometimes used the name Joanne Murray when conducting personal business. During the Leveson Inquiry she gave evidence under the name of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. In a 2012 interview, Rowling noted that she no longer cared that people pronounced her name incorrectly.
Rowling was born to Peter James Rowling, a Rolls-Royce aircraft engineer, and Anne Rowling (née Volant), on 31 July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Bristol. Her mother Anne was half-French and half-Scottish. Her parents first met on a train departing from King's Cross Station bound for Arbroath in 1964. They married on 14 March 1965. Her mother's maternal grandfather, Dugald Campbell, was born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Her mother's paternal grandfather, Louis Volant, was awarded the Croix de Guerre for exceptional bravery in defending the village of Courcelles-le-Comte during the First World War.
Rowling's sister Dianne was born at their home when Rowling was 23 months old. The family moved to the nearby village Winterbourne when Rowling was four. She attended St Michael's Primary School, a school founded by abolitionist William Wilberforce and education reformer Hannah More. Her headmaster at St Michael's, Alfred Dunn, has been suggested as the inspiration for the Harry Potter headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
As a child, Rowling often wrote fantasy stories, which she would usually then read to her sister. She recalls that: "I can still remember me telling her a story in which she fell down a rabbit hole and was fed strawberries by the rabbit family inside it. Certainly the first story I ever wrote down (when I was five or six) was about a rabbit called Rabbit. He got the measles and was visited by his friends, including a giant bee called Miss Bee." At the age of nine, Rowling moved to Church Cottage in the Gloucestershire village of Tutshill, close to Chepstow, Wales. When she was a young teenager, her great aunt, who Rowling said "taught classics and approved of a thirst for knowledge, even of a questionable kind," gave her a very old copy of Jessica Mitford's autobiography, Hons and Rebels. Mitford became Rowling's heroine, and Rowling subsequently read all of her books.
Rowling has said of her teenage years, in an interview with The New Yorker, "I wasn’t particularly happy. I think it’s a dreadful time of life." She had a difficult homelife; her mother was ill and she had a difficult relationship with her father (she is no longer on speaking terms with him). She attended secondary school at Wyedean School and College, where her mother had worked as a technician in the science department. Rowling said of her adolescence, "Hermione [a bookish, know-it-all Harry Potter character] is loosely based on me. She's a caricature of me when I was eleven, which I'm not particularly proud of." Steve Eddy, who taught Rowling English when she first arrived, remembers her as "not exceptional" but "one of a group of girls who were bright, and quite good at English." Although you may have read these stories before on Pottermore, I really hate reading it all there and wanted it only as a book.
Though I still wish it all become one Huge "Hardcover book- The Long waited Encyclopedia"
But really the editing and connecting the stories and the articles that followed every story was totally marvelous and charming and made a good feeling of it as actual book. and the design and the chapters art are fun too..
And this chapter following the most Evil Ministry employee’s, Umbridge. of The Ministry for Magic encyclopedic details from 1707 till now was something worth studying. The Azkaban history is so brrrrrrrrr, cold as hell, you know what I mean.
And the crazy mind blowing ingredients of the Polyjuice Potion and how Rowling thought about it, along with more insightful look into the Potions making that followed Slughorn, the next best potion master's chapter. That was good too.
And the broken connection between Slughorn and the memory Dumbledore wanted is finally reveled... and why he was fearing something the whole time.
I didn't like much Quirrell’s, and it needed better editing BTW, it seemed as thought many times.
But I loved the 2 faces back to back of Quirrell chapter art., chapter arts in general are really talented and simple.
And for Peeves, I never knew Poltergeists aren't ghosts at all.. his piece was short yet so complete.
I wished he made it to the movie but I really enjoyed playing against him in the first 3 PC games of Harry Potter.

So, finally, as they promoted it..It's a a mix of previously released Pottermore content and brand new material, all of which is penned by Rowling. But it's really collected, organized and bound in one, digital book..just so well..
can't say more..
Really gald for these 3 books, Merlin's beard! It's really Harry Potter’s world books for 2016.
And sure I'll wait for more volumes of this series.

5 STARS! probably my favourite of the three Pottermore Presents books :)
It's less in a “storytelling” tone and more an account of their pasts, with J.K. Rowling's thoughts tagged along! I found its writing and whole design appropriate for its goal: A brief interesting return to the history of the Wizarding World and the backstories of some our favourite love-to-hate characters. Of course, you won't have any interest in this if you haven't read Harry Potter :)

This was probably my favourite chapter of the whole thing! In this part, we read about different Ministers; from the first female Minister for Magic (1798–1811) who established Department of International Magical Co-operation and lobbied hard and successfully to have a Quidditch World Cup tournament held in Britain during her term, to the Minister who believed the Muggle technology telegraph interferes with wand function, or the one who introduced the “pointy hat” legislation!

Was called in confidentially in 1782 by the Muggle Prime Minister of the day, Lord North, to see whether he could help with King George III’s emerging mental instability. Word leaked out that Lord North believed in wizards, and he was forced to resign after a motion of no confidence.
Archer Evermonde
1912 – 1923
In post during the Muggle First World War, Evermonde passed emergency legislation forbidding witches and wizards to get involved, lest they risk mass infractions of the International Statute of Secrecy. Thousands defied him, aiding Muggles where they could.
Azkaban
Horace Slughorn
Oh I wanna hug this name-dropper of a man, and his life story was my second fave chapter of the book!

In the wrong hands, power and magic can be dark, lethal, and consuming.In “Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists” you discover what happens when power goes to someone’s head (quite literally, in Professor Quirrell’s case).
It's less in a “storytelling” tone and more an account of their pasts, with J.K. Rowling's thoughts tagged along! I found its writing and whole design appropriate for its goal: A brief interesting return to the history of the Wizarding World and the backstories of some our favourite love-to-hate characters. Of course, you won't have any interest in this if you haven't read Harry Potter :)

Dolores Umbridge
Dolores Umbridge may have looked like an iced cupcake, but she was anything but sweet. She was savage, sadistic and remorseless.If it isn't the character we all wanna strangle! I appreciated learning about her past and family and more of her personality, analysing her terror of the unknown and the wild. Her journey to power literally made me wanna throttle her :)
Ministers for Magic
This was probably my favourite chapter of the whole thing! In this part, we read about different Ministers; from the first female Minister for Magic (1798–1811) who established Department of International Magical Co-operation and lobbied hard and successfully to have a Quidditch World Cup tournament held in Britain during her term, to the Minister who believed the Muggle technology telegraph interferes with wand function, or the one who introduced the “pointy hat” legislation!

سومین کتاب «ارائهای از پاترمور» از نظر امتیازی برای من هم رده با کتاب «راهنمای ناکامل و نامعتبر هاگوارتز» بود. کتاب رنگ و بوی هاگوارتز و هری رو داشت و این منو خوشحال میکرد، با این حال یادآوری دوباره آمبریج باعث میشد یادم بیاد چقدر از این آدم بدم میاد.
جالبترین بخش کتاب در مورد آخرین تلاش سرایداران هاگوارتز برای بیرون کردن بدعنق از قلعه بود و واقعا تصور اینکه اون همه اسلحه مخرب رو به دست بدعنق بدی، دود از کله آدم بلند میکنه! تصورش هم خندهدار و جالبه. شرایطی که بدعنق برای صلح گذاشت هم واقعا برام جالب بود :))
این سه تا کتاب دستنوشتههای رولینگ توی پاترمور بود (که بعضیهاش البته جدید بود و یه سری چیزها هم به قبلیها اضافه شده بود) و احتمالا در آینده هم کتابهای دیگهای از این مجموعه منتشر بشه. تجربه ترجمه این سه تا کتاب برام بینهایت لذتبخش بود و حداقل از بازخوردهایی که گرفتم تقریبا اکثریت از کیفیت ترجمه راضی بودن که این قوت قلب خیلی خوبی برای من بود. اگه باز هم کتاب دیگهای از این مجموعه منتشر بشه، به شرط بقای عمر حتما میرم سراغش و ترجمش میکنم.
پ.ن: خیلی دوست دارم یه روز رولینگ از دامبلدور بنویسه. بین همه زندگینامههایی که توی این سه کتاب بود، زندگینامه مکگونگال و لوپین بیشتر از بقیه بهم چسبید. اما امیدوارم یه روز رولینگ دست به قلم ببره و از گذشته دامبلدور بیشتر بنویسه.

I started this book by hating the diabolical sadistic Dolores Umbridge, even her name holds the meaning which is really uncanny.
I mean even looking at her or reading about her gives you negative vibes! She is CREEPY!
The ministers bored me all along, being paradoxically weird. The timeline order of the list of Ministers dragged a bit. The facts related to the prison of Azkaban and Dementors are eerie!
This most gifted potion maker - Horace Slughorn's struggles, weaknesses, guilt-trips, and survival attempts are totally peculiar leading stories till the second battle at Hogwarts.
Also, the more information about Potions, Polyjuice potion, Cauldrones is the bonus!
Hunger for power leads to a fate like Prof. Quirrell, destroying every ounce of happiness in the way. His incapability to survive interference of Lord Voldemort on his mind piloted certain miserable events for the Hogwarts.
The prank master Peeves stole every heart along with the Fred & George Weasley! The historical background and his fear for Bloody Baron are indeed nicely portrayed.
More importantly, I loved this book because of the intriguing thought process of JKR about each and every character mentioned.

This little history book gives us background information on several of the lesser known people at the Hogwarts. We see the menacing childhood of Dolores Umbridge and why Horace Slughorn likes to be around famous people. We see what drove Quirinus Quirrell toward looking for Voldemort. I enjoyed learning about Peeves and how why he is around. There is history of Azkaban and how the place came to be. It's a sordid history. Then there is a list of all the Ministers of Magic back when they were keeping records.
These are just short little history ditties, but I love knowing more about the lives of these characters. I really enjoy reading more about this world. I see there are a lot more of these stories out there and I am going to read them. For a Harry Potter fan and enthusiasts of Harry Potter. I just want there to be more and more material, but I do miss having a story. Still, it's short stories that are about the characters. I love that J. K. did so much background to everyone in her story. It's no wonder this story was so powerful and well done. J. K. rocks.

A panoramic collection!
I loved to get to know more about the characters who do evil things. I appreciated how J.K.Rowling provided both Heroes and Villians' back stories for her readers.

Not really short stories as character bios, but good for all that. I liked seeing some background on the some of the baddies and the not so baddies, the grey folks like Slughorn.
Definitely a good read if you like to get additional information about main characters like Dolores. :)

This second book full of short stories and snippets from the world of Harry Potter includes the following five chapters:
1) Dolores Umbridge
2) Ministers for Magic and Azkaban
3) Horace Slughorn / Polyjuice Potion / Cauldrons
4) Quirinus Quirrell
5) A Pesky Poltergeist
I've always hated Umbridge. Like HATED. Voldemort is the ultimate evil but he has no emotions. In many ways, it's easy to see him as a non-human and therefore treat him differently (put him in his own class so to speak). Umbridge however is human, through and through, but simply chooses to be the worst version imaginable. This chapter does nothing to redeem her, actually. Rowling's background on her gives great insight into her malice and why she looks / dresses the way she does (most interesting were Rowling's own thoughts and motives in making Umbridge the way she was *lol*). I can see the humanity in many characters, even the ones I didn't like, but this pink menace deserved all she got from the centaurs or would have deserved even worse, actually.
Now Slughorn, on the other hand, was full of human error but not a bad person. The background information in this ebook does him more justice than the big books and I'm glad for it. He's not a man I would have called my favourite teacher, I think, but one mistake should not define and haunt you like that. Besides, redemption stories are always powerful.
Moreover, we get to know a bit more about potions (especially Polyjuice Potion) and cauldrons and the thought process that led Rowling to this or that description / name-giving.
In between these two chapters is another one naming all the Ministers ever since the Ministry for Magic was established. Some last names are actually well known, some information is very funny and some, again, give great hints at what we will see in the Fantastic Beasts movies!
The last two chapters are pretty short. It was kind of nice to read about Quirrel and Peeves but, ultimately, I wouldn't have missed it had it not been in the book.
Again, much of this was already known to me through Pottermore, but Rowling made up for it by including completely unknown stuff too. It's just a delight to see the true scope of the world that the author has in her head.

BRILLIANT!
This is less of a short story, and more of an encyclopedia-y read, which isn't a bad thing, after the atrocity that was Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
There's mention of some of my old favs and just enough backstory to satisfy me without totally ruining my own version of characterizations I've developed in my head.
I can't wait to read Remus' section in the next Pottermore Presents (I'm realizing now I'm reading these out of order ... OH WELL).

I don't think I will ever stop being amazed at how thorough the world building and character development in the Wizarding World is!

I loved all the introductions to Cauldrons and Potions, and the part where J.K. Rowling described Azkaban and why it was named Azkaban, it was amazing.

Con perdón: qué coñazo de historias, de verdad. Me han gustado muchísimo menos que las del primer volumen. Son terriblemente aburridas, es más, hay una que es una lista interminable de todos los ministros de magia que ha habido. Y ya está.
La única que quizás me ha gustado más es la de Umbridge, aunque tampoco es que aporte gran cosa que no supiéramos ya. En fin, a ver si con las que me quedan me llevo una alegría.

As the #1 is more about single characters, #2 manages to mingle characters and interesting facts from the wizard's world into one. Loved it! Many great quotes, funny things and magic.

This review has the SAME opening from reviews I wrote for THIS and THIS, the other 2 books in the Pottermore Presents, because I do in fact have the same opinion on the matter. Starting from the Pottermore urls is where the reviews differ from one another due to being different books.
I'm happy that some of the additional materials from Pottermore are finally collected and presented in a book-like way! It kind of forces me into reading them as well, cuz before, when it was articles on characters or subjects I wasn't particularly interested in knowing more, I simply wouldn't even click on the links to read; by having them together, I did finish reading them, since they were presumably selected for a good reason. xP
That being said, if there's people who, as of now, are not certain to spend extra money on this digitized publication, and have never thought about looking up Pottermore, here are the majority of the content (completely legal and official, too):

Also note that chapter 3, for Horace Slughorn; correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the majority of this chapter actually is in fact new material! I failed to find them on Pottermore! Which I'm honestly quite surprised since characters such as Kettleburn and Quirrell got writings by JKR on the site. Never cared too much about Slughorn, so I doubt I would have read his article had there been one on Pottermore anyway, but it was refreshing all the same to read a condense version of his life that solely focused on him. BTW, the wording/organization of content for Polyjuice Potion in this chapter is also slightly different from its counterpart on the site, with an EXTRA paragraph that's not on the Pottermore page!
This book again is a lovely surprise, cuz this time most of the subjects its covering aren't what I would look up and read. Always loathed Umbridge, and I'm pleasantly disgusted (dunno how that works) that reading her backstories made me loath her even more; didn't think that was possible lol.
The chapter on Ministers for Magic and Azkaban is extraordinarily enlightening, very much thanks to a well-placed extra transitional text: "[...] And keep an eye out, as there’s a familiar surname or two amongst them." Sure perked my interest, so keep an eye out I did. Imagine my surprise when I saw -*Spoiler but not really cuz the info's been out for years!*- Rowle and Lestrange amongst the list of ministers! (And I shamefully admit I kind of jumped the gun when it comes to Parkinson and Flint due to there relative's House, but still, it was honestly a shock for me that Pansy possibly has a distant deceased relative who was once the Minister lol.
On the other hand, I'm also happy to see the family names of Diggory and Boot! Diggory left a great impression with what he tried to do regarding to Azkaban and Dementors. This made me die a little all over again with Cedric's untimely death... I mean, I know had he lived, he most likely would have graduated by the time Slughorn came back to Hogwarts; but I can honestly picture Slughorn desperately trying to recruit him to his Slug Club lmao.

the second in a set of 3 short stories released by jk rowling this year and i can say i enjoyed this one but not as much as i did the first one.
However i did enjoy learning about all of the minster's of magic from the beginning until the very present. I liked how Jk rowling provided a snapshot of each minister and how there career with the top job went, it provided me with more information about how each minister is elected and how long they can be in office for.
Dolores Umbridge was one of the chapters in this short story i can say i still hate this character as much as i did while reading the series and i can now finally understand why. She was evil and sadistic from a very young age and it lasted all throughout her life, She really didn't like her parents very much and i was surprised to learn she had a muggle mother and a squib brother. Her whole life and career was just a summary of what we got in the books but this provided the reason why she was like the way she was and really never did change at all.
Horace Slughorn was another chapter in this short story although he wasn't a favourite character of mine in the harry potter series i did enjoy learning more about him in his chapter. He was born into a very wealthy and pure-blood family but they really didn't hold the values most pure-blood families did they didn't care if someone was pure-blood, half-blood or muggle-born they were more worried about wealth and status. However what i got from his chapter was that i don't think he was really into being wealthy at all and preferred to be on his own.
Other things that were very nice additions to this short story book was Quirinus Quirrell that we really didn't get much of a story for in the books, i was shocked to learn that he was a Ravenclaw when he attended Hogwarts i thought he was always either in Gryffindor or Slytherin house. Peeves had his own dedicated chapter which i have been waiting to learn more about him ever since i finished the series many years ago.

This is the 2nd collection of short stories made available by Pottermore, written by JK Rowling. I love these shorts...they explore even farther into the magical world and it's history, and they also go into more detail about characters whose backstories weren't explored in the series.
Another must read for fans!

These are not so much short stories about but character sketches, almost as if Rowling was showing her character sheets for Umbridge and Slughorn among others. The highlights are also a list of the Minsters of Magic, which includes some funny tidbits. If you are a Harry Potter fan, these are worth a read and nicely add to the universe.

To be honest this book kinda put me in a slump. I just didn't care much to read about Umbridge or Slughorn...... Especially Umbridge. I guess I need a little break from the wizarding world. :( But don't worry I won't stay away long!;)

The book isn't great by any means, but still offers a mildly amusing look into different infamous characters of the HP world along with some of its politics.
