Williamshús is located in the capital of Faroe Islands, Tórshavn. It was the primary residence of Faroe Islands greatest writer William Heinesen. 

 

When the house was built, it stood by it self, in the periphery of the capital of Tórshavn. The seclusive position on top of Tórshavn, gave Heinesen the peace to write his largest works, most of which were written in the small cottage on top of the mount that overlooks his house and most crucially, Tórshavn, William Heinesen's universe and undoubtedly the town that gave birth to most of the characters in his books. Heinesen is widely tought to be one of the most important writers in 20th Century Scandinavian literature and is translated into 25 languages. 

 

The house itself stood complete in 1932 and housed the award winning writer and his family. The house bares many significant remnants of his life and work and it is left exactly as it was after his passing 1991. The colourful interior, rich in atmosphere, is hand decorated by his own hand and by his son, the renowned artist,  Zacharias Heinesen.

In 2014, Zacharias Heinesen donated the house and grounds to the foundation, Williamshús. The Heinesen family's wishes are that the museum and its gardens are enjoyed by all.
