Road House actor Marshall Teague has shared his thoughts on working with Patrick Swayze in the original movie along with Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming remake.

In the original film, Marshall Teague played Jimmy, a rival of Patrick Swayze's Dalton. In Amazon's Road House remake, Gyllenhaal plays the new Dalton while UFC fighter Conor McGregor makes his film debut as his nemesis, essentially taking Teague's spot. Speaking about the remake's trailer with TMZ, Teague noted how the sound effects for the fighting in the remake sounded "a little off." He then shared how it sounded much more realistic in the original Road House, perhaps because he and Swayze were not holding back very much when filming their fight scenes.

Road House remake director Doug Liman is speaking out against Amazon over the company's handling of the film.

"We were hitting," Teague said. "He and I hit each other pretty hard... I tried to take it easy on the others, and he did too, but when it came to he and I, we pole-axed each other, basically, is the word. I love him to death, and I miss him every day. He was a great guy. I feel very honored to have had the opportunity to do that film with him, and I hope the two of them [Gyllenhaal and McGregor] have the same relationship. I really do."

Further remembering Swayze, Teague added, "Patrick Swayze was a different ball of wax, and so was I, I was a different fighter than Conor McGregor. He was more serious, you know, Patrick was much more serious, but by that same token, he was very much a ladies man, without really trying. He didn't have to try."

A new look at the Road House remake honors the original movie with several Easter eggs.

Teague can't yet comment on the quality of the new Road House, as he has yet to see it, but he's predicting that it may do well at the start. However, he's wondering if the movie will match the legacy of the original Road House, which remains popular with fans nearly four decades later.

"I think initially it will do fine. I hope it does fine, I really do," Teague said. "The question will be, this is always the question, will it last 35 years? Will it be around 35 years where people are still wanting to watch that particular Road House? Who knows... Time will tell whether this one will make the run, or will it just be an overnight butt-kicker, and people say, 'Thank you, see you. It doesn't have the same charm as the first.'"

Will Marshall Teague Appear in the New Road House?

While a cameo appearance from Teague would have been a fun nod to the original film, the actor confirmed that he isn't involved with the sequel. He suggested that he probably wouldn't fit in very well with the fight scenes at this point in his life, going on to joke that it would be hard to bring him back given how his character died in the original movie.

As Teague explained. "As far as me being in the film, no I'm not. I think they look at it from a realistic version. Yeah, it would've been great, but realistically speaking, I'm older. These are much younger people. And, besides that, I died. I ripped my throat out. I mean, what do you do with that?"

The new Road House will premiere on Prime Video on March 21, 2024.
