Columbia is definitely special place to be and an alluring atmosphere to many. The education you receive and the knowledge you receive from the professors there is no joke. Oftentimes it seems as if school life is moving at 2x speed just because there’s always so much going on both academicly and socially. The only major criticism that comes to mind is our lack of school spirit. There seems be a lack of school pride when it comes to supporting sports teams, rallies, school events, etc. I would hope that the student body work towards supporting their fellow students and uplifting their community.
As a biochemistry student at Columbia University, my experience was extraordinary. The Core Curriculum was a highlight, exposing me to literature, philosophy, art history, and music. This interdisciplinary approach enriched my understanding and fostered critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
Beyond academics, I loved engaging with the community through Peer Health Exchange (now S-HEAL), where I educated high school students on health and wellness. This experience enhanced my communication skills and deepened my commitment to public health.
Writing for The Spectator allowed me to make scientific concepts accessible, improving my ability to articulate ideas clearly. Additionally, Columbia’s vibrant arts scene, from Miller Theatre performances to Wallach Art Gallery exhibitions, provided a rich cultural balance to my studies.
Overall, Columbia offered a holistic education, blending rigorous science, arts, and community involvement, preparing me well for the future.

The beginning of freshman year was difficult for me. I had to make new friends, attend classes without support and figure out how to study while making time for my part time work and other extracurricular activities. However, by the middle of second semester, I started figuring out what is good for me in terms of the people I want in my life and how to study better to enhance my gpa. It was a tough year specially with the protests and violence in Columbia University. I had a lot to learn from the professors and students which helped me figure out who I really am and what my values are. I would say it was a fruitful year.
Columbia challenged me academically and fostered immense growth. Stellar professors and classmates broadened my worldview, preparing me for my career. However, social life can be tough, with wealth-driven cliques. Despite the drawbacks, I'm incredibly grateful for the transformative experience.
My experience at Columbia University has been incredibly enriching. The academic rigor challenged me to grow intellectually, while the diverse community fostered invaluable connections and perspectives. From renowned professors to passionate peers, every interaction contributed to my personal and academic development. The campus culture encouraged exploration, creativity, and innovation, allowing me to pursue my interests and discover new passions. Whether in the classroom, research lab, or extracurricular activities, Columbia provided endless opportunities for learning and growth. Overall, my time at Columbia has been transformative, shaping me into a well-rounded individual prepared for future endeavors.
Very excited about it! The teachers are very nice and the administrative staff as well. I haven't started the program yet.
Columbia University has no respect for their students or faculty and profits by investing in genocide. As a New Yorker its sad to see Columbia falling off the center stage as a leader in education and voice for humanity. I would encourage prospective students to consider other universities that will appreciate you. You want to study at a University that you can be proud to say you are an alumna in the future.
You will get arrested here for free speech, no respect for student safety, shame on you for allowing this to happen
As a senior, who - like many students here took out tons of money to pay for what I thought was a stellar education, something doesn't seem right. First off, they need to control the current on-campus protests. I understand the position, but it's disrupting class. So much so, that the job I have lined up is telling me that I might have to take additional classes so I am prepared. You will have to make boatloads of money to pay the loans of - no one ever talks about that. Many of my friends are going off to law or medical school but they also seem to wish they had saved up their money for law or medical school. I grew up in Brooklyn and there's no place I'd rather be than NYC but it's changed so much in the past year. It's going through a rough patch. I realize the city always comes back but something to consider. My twin sister is happy at Syracuse and received practically a full ride and is going to medical school next year. I am wondering about my experience here.
Disgrace to the previously good name of Ivy League universities. Shame on the staff and administrators for allowing it to descend into a living nightmare
Worst university if i go back in time i would never study here, first off you pay a tution that is much higher than other universities please consider other universities trust me on this
This school, once the pride of New York has descended into disgrace. It is not even a Top-50 school at this point as virtual signaling has replaced academic learning leaving the graduating students poor and ill-prepared upon graduation
Horrible place. Disgusting professor's. Leftist campus.not safety place don't send your family to this university. Racism is the food every day
It has been great! Being in NYC is a very special aspect of college life here, but Columbia also feels very separate from the city so you don't get distracted. The party scene for me is dull, I barely find parties to go to (or people to go with) but I'm sure Greek life is having fun. The people are so diverse and brilliant and the academics have me more immersed than I have ever been. It has been tough to adjust but I think that's something we need to go through to grow.
I am disgusted with Columbia University. The entire staff is showing, they are indoctrinated, left-wing, libral, democratic, idiots.
The university is great academically, but some professors have very large egos that get in the way of their ability to teach. It would be great if the campus were more diverse.
As a sophomore at Columbia University, I've found it to be a thrilling academic journey. The campus in New York City pulses with energy, offering rigorous classes led by expert faculty. Beyond academics, there's a wealth of extracurricular activities and a tight-knit community. Columbia's emphasis on holistic development ensures students are well-prepared for future endeavors. In short, it's been a transformative experience, inspiring me to push boundaries and make a difference.
I am an international student, and Columbia University is incredibly diverse and inclusive, much like the city of New York itself. However, the downsides are also very apparent. The cost of living in this city is high. My master's program does not offer any scholarships. Housing options at the university seem limited. Faced with steep tuition fees, I wonder if the courses are worth it.
Columbia University is an interesting mix of school and culture. While the academics are strong, I find the rest of the school experience to be lacking.
Columbia is my favorite place ever. I was sad to leave but thankfully I kept my friends from uni. You will make great friends here (and at college in general) and you will learn a lot about yourself and others from the diverse student body and greater campus of New York City. If you feel that you could fit in here, I highly recommend Columbia. 10/10 food, dorms, and professors. The things I like least include the Core (hit or miss for most people) and the competitiveness of students. Let’s just be kind to each other and realize that we’re all going through something alright? Anyways, I was told by everyone in my family not to go here because NY is “so unsafe” but in my 4 yr. experience the campus has been safer than a year in my small hometown frfr.
