Voight has never been in more danger ahead of Chicago PD finale

Is Hank Voight going to die in the Chicago PD season 11 finale?

We'll be honest, it doesn't look good for the IU boss.

Hank Voight has seen better days. The veteran police officer had a lot on his plate during the penultimate episode of Chicago PD's eleventh season. He had to juggle a hunt for a vicious serial killer with the fact that the killer seemingly had a police background, and could outsmart the IU.

Voight put up a valiant fight, and it seemed as though the IU was going to get close to catching the serial killer in question, but things went south. SPOILERS for the episode "Inventory" and the PD season 11 finale ahead. The IU determined that the killer actually didn't have a police background, but was merely a locksmith who could access any location in the city.

Before they could do anything about it, though, the killer struck. He picked the lock at Voight's apartment, broke in, and took the veteran officer hostage. He then transported Voight to a secure location where he could be tortured to death without any disruptions. End of episode. Yikes. Fans were shocked by this turn of events, especially since the next episode is the season 11 finale.

The promo doesn't do much to quell the concern that Voight is on his last legs. He can be seen at the aforementioned secure location, and the serial killer tells him he gets one phone call before he does. "One phone call to someone you love," he adds. Voight is in bad shape, bloodied and visibly tired. Is this really the end of the line for the character?

The character will indeed make it to season 13

Thankfully, the answer is no. Jason Beghe, the actor who plays Voight, told The Hollywood Reporter that he plans to stay on the show for several more seasons. He explicitly stated that he had more to explore within regards to the character:

"l'll always be a part of Chicago PD. That, I know. I certainly have the interest. So, I’m not done, I have more to do, and I’m anxious to do it. I love my job."

There's also a practical reason not to kill Voight off. The show will already have to contend with the exit of Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), so the notion of killing off another actor who is vital to the show and wants to stay seems like it'd be an artistic gamble that end in disaster. Voight is going to make it out of this squabble in one piece.
