Light of Day Lyrics

Well, I've been out of the woods for 6 days and nights, now
Well, I'm a little hot wired but I'm feeling alright
I got some money in my pocket and a long, lean ride, yeah
I got to make it down to Galveston by Saturday night, now

Well, I'm a little down under but I'm feeling okay
Got a little lost along the way
I'm just around the corner to the light of day
Well, I'm just around the corner to the light of day, yeah

Been driving 500 miles, got 500 to go, yeah
I got rock 'n' roll music on the radio
I got a brother on a rig just off the Gulf Coast
He says the girls down there, well, they're really the most, man

Well, I'm a little down under but I'm feeling okay
I got a little lost along the way
Just around the corner to the light of day, yeah
Just around the corner to the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner to the light of day, yeah
Just around the corner to the light of day, yeah

I'm driving 100 miles, 200 miles, 300 miles
Train kept on a-rollin'
Going 400 miles, 500 miles, 600 miles
Train kept on a-rollin'
Going 700 miles, 800 miles, 900 miles
1,000 miles, 2,000 miles, 3,000 miles
I came a long, long way tonight
All the way to Hollywood, California
Via Sweden, via Paris, via Italian, via France
Via via London, England
Via the great state of New Jersey
And halfway across the United States
I wanna thank y'all for invitin' me into your living room tonight
I know there's millions of ya out there
I know you're downhearted
I know you're disenchanted
I know you're disillusioned
I know there's 57 channels and nothing on
Just one thing I wanna know tonight
There's just one thing I wanna know
But first I want you to get up off your couch
I want you to put the popcorn down
I want you to come on over to the TV set
I want you to turn it up real loud
I want you to take off all your clothes now
And what I want to know is anybody alive out there?
Well, I got thrown out of work on the Kokomo
Don't ask me what I'm doing, I don't know
I hope he wasn't joking when he wrote me that letter
Things can't get any worse, they gotta get better

I'm a little down under, feeling okay
Got a little lost along the way

Just around the corner to the light of day
Just around the corner to the light of day, yeah
Just around the corner to the light of day, yeah
Just around the corner to the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner
Just around the corner
Just around the corner
Just around the corner
Just around the corner to the light of day
Just around the corner to the light of day
Just around the corner to the light of day

Genius Annotation

Written by Bruce Springsteen in 1983 and recorded during the Born In The U.S.A. sessions but never released.

Allegedly given to director Paul Schrader for his 1987 film Light Of Day as a favour after Springsteen borrowed Schrader’s working title for the movie as the title song to his 1984 Born In The U.S.A. album.

This live version comes from Springsteen’s MTV Unplugged appearance in September 1992 performed with the much maligned “Other Band” and released in April 1993 as In Concert/MTV Plugged.
