The restaurant is situated in a beautiful area in the heart of Shanghai. The place in typical Italian style is so cozy with a delicious carbonara and cacio e pepe, the tiramisù was good too. They have a lot of different Italian high quality wines too. So, you have to try it!

Very nice settings for lunners. Love their decors and lightings on the patio. Staffs were friendly, and some can communicate in English which is a plus. Menu was relatively large with quite a variety compared to similar restaurants.
Food overall was decent. Papalina pizza was solid: the roman style crust was thin, crispy, crunchy and perfectly cooked; the burrata on top was creamy and rich; the ham (I assume was jamón ibérico) was savory. Tiramisu was palatable. The caffe corretto was strong-tasting.
All in all, Platino has good food, helpful staffs and for its price, you can’t go wrong with it.

Amazing Italian taste. Everything delicious. Today I have tryed a Margherita pizza, very light and a dish of pasta, the "Paccheri alla Palatino". Delicious, really better than sometime in italy., like when your mammy is cooking.
Service also very friendly and reactive.
Very impress!!

For a restaurant that claims 'roman cuisine' in their name, it's a big let down. The menu is lacking most of the classic roman dishes, with most of the menu not even Italian. They put jamón ibérico on saltimbocca, they have manchego on the cheese platter.
The carbonara was way too salty (and I am Italian..) and completely unbalanced. The pizza menu is ridiculous (I swear I've seen a pizza with a half boiled egg on top).
On top of a disappointing food experience, there was also a long wait between the entrees/antipasti and the mains.
Non si nomina l'Italia invano!

Palatina is a depressing place. I am doing the owners a favour here by telling the truth. This restaurant stinks.
Although we had booked, we were greeted by a sour faced man demanding of us (with all the friendliness of a man losing in life), if we had booked.
Though we had indeed booked - our table was not ready. We waited in this cramped restaurant for a table to be cleared. One, bang up against the bar, was then offered. Seeing one, by the window (obviously preferable), I asked for that to be cleared. It was, and we sat down to the pungent smell of industrial alcohol from the waiter's spray disinfectant. Not really what you want filling your nostrils just before you eat.
Menus were brought - and plenty of time was given to choose - in fact too much time. We had to hail the seemingly deaf waiter and waitress several times before they noticed the couple waving by the window.
The food arrived. You don't need a novelisation so here's a summary: - the complementary bread came in a miserly portion - as did the oil and vinegar dip. The prawns tasted like they were straight out of the freezer - the caesar salad was bland, and the calamari oily. My son (whom) I was dining with said his Margarita was "okay." And my Napoli tasted of nothing at all but anchovies.
All this in an ugly cramped building, lined with ugly breeze-bold themed wallpaper. Only when we were actually walking out were we acknowledge as even having been there. Not once did anyone come over to the table to say - how are things - do you want to order another glass of wine - nothing. If utterly ignored is unfriendly - this is an unfriendly restaurant.
In summary -- this restaurant fails on every level in which a restaurant can fail. Avoid.

Second visit within 3 weeks. It is a consistent good experience in the French concession area. Interesting pasta, reasonable value drinkable wine and friendly owners.

Really impressed with the service and quality here. On a carb free night. Carpaccio, chicken breast and grilled seafood all superb. Carbs looked amazing too. Next time !!!!

I have been going at palatino since long one and I can say that it is one of my favorite Italian restaurant in this huge city. Service is good, owner by Italians with staff that is able to talk italian language. The menu is wide with a nice selection of real Roman italian main course. Here I have tried almost all kind of pasta, must say that the carbonara is made without cream cheese, thanks god.
Wide selections of wines.
Price is good in line with the city.

They have authentic pizza! Having been to Italy and tasted the real thing, I can say that Palatino does a great job of replicating the best Italian pizza. The atmosphere at the restaurant is cozy but also Shanghai smart, nice wine list as well...

We visited Palatino recently, after a recommendation from an Italian colleague. The food is quite authentic and we enjoyed it. But the restaurant itself and the menu are not child friendly. It’s more suited for couples.

We highly recommend this place. Very authentic, which is hard to find in China. Actual Italian Chef, who was very nice to talk with. We have previously lived in Italy and this was some of the best we have had outside of Italy. My family and I tried a variety of items on the menu even coffee and dessert. Everything was amazing!!!
