It’s good because it’s small, so theres a great connection between students and teachers. But that also means not everything is offered.
The community of the school is very tight-knit, office-hours are easy to access and encouraged, most of the teachers are extremely easy to connect with. The classes typically remain focused and engaged which benefits our learning. The curriculum promotes critical thinking and discussion which has assisted my engagement and learning. The history staff typically enjoys discussing racial theory and incorporating all different identities of people into the education, they spend a significant amount of time on this, my APUSH teacher junior year spent too much time on the subject to the point where we missed out on crucial parts of our curriculum. I am personally very grateful for their encouragement to discuss these subjects, especially in a noticeably predominately white school, however when it comes to exams such as state regents and APs my entire grade has had the experience of having to teach themselves the APUSH curriculum 4 weeks leading up to the exam, this did not work out for most.
There are parts of the school that could be better, like every school. For example, the bathroom policy is really annoying, it doesn't sound like much but it gets annoying when you go to Lab every day. Academically, I'd say the school is good. Some of the teachers aren't my favorite, but overall the staff is great. The college counselor, Ms. Madenberg, is extremely helpful.
