Resurgent Hull City claimed their fourth straight victory as Ryan Longman's winner handed Millwall a first defeat in five matches.

The hosts went ahead after a lively start when Jacob Greaves whipped a cross towards the six-yard box where George Honeyman headed in on his 100th Tigers appearance.

The Lions were level on the stroke of half-time when Benik Afobe's through-ball sent Tom Bradshaw racing away to bend a shot around Hull goalkeeper Nathan Baxter.

Brighton loanee Longman then pounced to give Hull a sixth win of the season, following up after goalkeeper Bart Bialkowski parried a Josh Magennis shot.

Millwall had fought back in each of their previous three matches to draw 1-1 and history looked to be repeating itself at half-time as Bradshaw equalised in stoppage-time - the first goal Chelsea loanee Baxter had conceded in his six Hull appearances.

It was nothing more than the visitors deserved, with Afobe forcing Baxter into a fine save and Murray Wallace going close before Honeyman put City ahead with his third goal in four games.

But having won just two of their first 16 Championship matches, Grant McCann's side were soon back in front again through Longman's first goal since his loan move.

It was only the fourth time this season that the Lions had conceded more than one goal - and the second time in 16 matches.

Baxter made a fine save low down to deny Danny McNamara as Gary Rowett's side pressed for a second equaliser, but a 10th draw of the season proved beyond the visitors.

Hull remain 19th, five points above the bottom three, after a third home win of the campaign, and Millwall stay 10th, five points outside the play-off spots, following a third defeat in 12 matches.

Hull City manager Grant McCann told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was another good win. I thought we started the game quite well and obviously it was nice to score the first goal again.

"We were disappointed to concede when we conceded, but sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say it was a good piece of play.

"We had to be strong at the end. When Millwall bring (Matt) Smith on they are dangerous in terms of balls coming into your box. He's phenomenal in the air, so we had to be good with second balls which most of the time we were and limited them in efforts on our goal.

"It's been a tough week. We've played against three teams, all who have different ways of playing, but real tough games - Birmingham, Cardiff, Millwall - and we've picked up nine points. It's been a super shift."
